Diquarks are found to have the right degrees of freedom to describe the tetraquark poles in hidden-charm to open-charm meson-meson amplitudes. Compact tetraquarks result as intermediate states in non-planar diagrams of the 1/N expansion and the corresponding resonances are narrower than what estimated before. The proximity of tetraquarks to meson-thresholds has an apparent role in this analysis and, in the language of meson molecules, an halving rule in the counting of states is obtained.

  1. Cluster reducibility of multiquark operators

    hep-ph 2019-08 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Gauge-invariant multiquark operators decompose into products of ordinary hadronic operators, which rules out fully compact multiquark bound states.

  2. Flavour-Exotic Tetraquarks in Large-$N_{\rm c}$ QCD: Do They Exist?

    hep-ph 2019-08 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

Large-Nc QCD requires two flavour-exotic tetraquark states, but only one compact diquark-antidiquark configuration exists, so compact flavour-exotic tetraquarks likely do not exist.

  3. Tetraquark-Adequate QCD Sum Rules

    hep-ph 2019-08 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

QCD sum rules for tetraquarks should exclude unconnected meson-meson contributions; the corrected rules retain only diagrams of order alpha_s^2 or higher.
