We review the production of gravitational waves by an electroweak first order phase transition. The resulting signal is a good candidate for detection at next-generation gravitational wave detectors, such as LISA. Detection of such a source of gravitational waves could yield information about physics beyond the Standard Model that is complementary to that accessible to current and near-future collider experiments. We summarise efforts to simulate and model the phase transition and the resulting production of gravitational waves.

  1. Non-conformal obstructions to bubble expansion

    hep-th 2026-07 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Non-conformal equations of state introduce wall and flow obstructions that delete entire classes of bubble solutions and create 'shocked detonations', shrinking the allowed wall-velocity space and suppressing gravitat...

  2. Multi-step Strong First-Order Electroweak Phase Transitions in the Inverted Type-I 2HDM: Parameter Space, Gravitational Waves, and Collider Phenomenology

    hep-ph 2025-06 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

In the inverted Type-I 2HDM, one-step and two-step strong first-order electroweak phase transitions live in largely separate parameter regions, and LISA-detectable gravitational wave signals come predominantly from th...

  3. Phase Transitions in Dimensional Reduction up to Three Loops

    hep-ph 2025-05 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

In a toy complex-scalar model, 1-loop dimension-6 matching corrections compete with 2-loop quartic corrections and dominate 3-loop thermal-mass corrections for strong phase transitions.

  4. Consistent Thermal Resummation and Phase Transitions with 2PI Methods

    hep-ph 2026-08 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A 2PI-Hartree effective potential for two mixing scalars is renormalized and used to show that self-consistent thermal resummation can substantially alter predicted phase transition strengths and gravitational wave spectra.

  5. Particle Production via Rippled Bubble Walls

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A rippled bubble wall produces heavy particles resonantly when the momentum transfer matches the ripple frequency, potentially raising dark-matter abundance by orders of magnitude.

  6. Strong First-Order Electroweak Phase Transitions and Gravitational Waves in the Normal Two-Higgs-Doublet Model: A Comparative Study of the Four Yukawa Types and Thermal Resummation Schemes

    hep-ph 2026-07 accept novelty 6.0 of 10

In the Normal 2HDM, SFOEWPTs are single-step and alignment-favoring across all four Yukawa types, yet Parwani versus Arnold–Espinosa resummation changes the viable heavy-mass range from ~1.6 TeV to ≲800 GeV and leaves...

  7. Inflationary phase transitions in the early Universe: A Bayesian study with space-based gravitational-wave detectors

    astro-ph.CO 2026-03 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

With a Taiji-like detector, inflationary phase-transition gravitational-wave backgrounds are detectable at SNR≳10, but reliable parameter reconstruction needs SNR≳33 and degrades with astrophysical foregrounds.

  8. Bayesian analysis of the complex singlet model with phase transition gravitational waves

    hep-ph 2025-11 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

Bayesian forecasts for the Taiji detector constrain complex singlet model parameters through electroweak phase transition gravitational wave signals.

  9. Measuring gravitational wave spectrum from electroweak phase transition and Higgs self-couplings

    hep-ph 2025-11 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

Using simulated Taiji data, the authors show that a stochastic gravitational-wave signal from an electroweak phase transition in the singlet-extended Standard Model can constrain the Higgs cubic and quartic self-couplings.

    astro-ph.CO 2025-06 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

Phase transitions happening during reheating can produce gravitational-wave signals that are delayed, prolonged, and shifted in amplitude and frequency by orders of magnitude compared with standard cosmology.
