abstract

The $K\to\mu^+\mu^-$ decay is often considered to be uninformative of fundamental theory parameters since the decay is polluted by long-distance hadronic effects. We demonstrate that, using very mild assumptions and utilizing time-dependent interference effects, ${\cal B}(K_S\to\mu^+\mu^-)_{\ell=0}$ can be experimentally determined without the need to separate the $\ell=0$ and $\ell=1$ final states. This quantity is very clean theoretically and can be used to test the Standard Model. In particular, it can be used to extract the CKM matrix element combination $\left|V_{ts}V_{td}\sin(\beta+\beta_s)\right|\approx |A^2 \lambda^5 \bar \eta|$ with hadronic uncertainties below $1\%$.

  1. The flavour of SU(15) composite quarks and leptons

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A hand-imposed hierarchical texture for two flavour spurions fits the SM quark/lepton masses and CKM, and the same spurions make the electron EDM and K0-Kbar0 mixing the strongest probes of the SU(15) preon scale.

  2. A CKM blind spot: probing $b$-column rescaling with kaons

    hep-ph 2026-07 accept novelty 6.0 of 10

A uniform rescaling of the CKM b-column is invisible to B-physics-only fits, and kaon data already bound it to −4%…+4% (2σ), with projections reaching ~2%.

  3. Prospects for $K_{L}\to\pi^{0}\nu\bar{\nu}$, $K_S\to\mu^+\mu^-$, $K_L\to\pi^0 \ell^+\ell^-$ and $\varepsilon^{\prime}/\varepsilon$ after the new $K^{+}\to\pi^{+}\nu\bar{\nu}$ result from NA62

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

A Z' model with both left- and right-handed sbar-d couplings can enhance K_L→π0ννbar by an order of magnitude while keeping K+→π+ννbar and ε_K SM-like.

  4. Natural complex plane for kaon CKM data: framework, status and future

    hep-ph 2025-04 accept novelty 5.0 of 10

The natural complex plane for kaon CKM constraints is spanned by A^2(1-ρ̂) and A^2η̂; current data allow four islands, and future measurements will reduce them to one or expose new physics.
