abstract

We study circle compactifications of tensionless bosonic string theory, both at the classical and the quantum level. The physical state condition for different representations of BMS$_3$, the worldsheet residual gauge symmetry for tensionless strings, admits three inequivalent quantum vacua. We obtain the compactified mass spectrum in each of these vacua using canonical quantization and explicate their properties.

  1. Towards a Holographic dual of Carrollian BCFT

    hep-th 2026-08 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

An end-of-the-world brane in 3d flat spacetime is shown to reduce spacetime symmetries to the boundary Carrollian conformal algebra, suggesting a flat-space analogue of AdS3/BCFT2 holography.

  2. Carrollian superstring in the flipped vacuum

    hep-th 2025-01 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

The Carrollian superstring in the flipped vacuum has a non-truncated spectrum with nonzero winding in the infinite-radius limit, and its three-point graviton amplitudes match tensile superstring results up to location...
