We numerically calculate the spacetime describing the formation and evaporation of a regular black hole in 2D dilaton gravity. The apparent horizons evaporate smoothly in finite time to form a compact trapped region. We nevertheless see rich dynamics; an anti-trapped region forms alongside the black hole, and additional compact trapped and anti-trapped regions are formed by backreaction effects as the mass radiates away. The spacetime is asymptotically flat at future null infinity and is free of singularities and Cauchy horizons. These results suggest that the evaporation of regular 2D black holes is unitary.

Semiclassical regularity of compact trapped regions: From dynamical horizons to inner extremality
In finite-lifetime dynamical geometries the in-vacuum RSET stays finite at the inner horizon, growing exponentially for non-extremal cases but only as a power law for inner-extremal ones.

Semiclassical Black Hole-White Hole transitions: an analytical treatment
The |in>-vacuum stress-energy in 2D collapse models amplifies at the inner horizon and can flip the ingoing null expansion, turning a trapped region into an anti-trapped one.

Regular black holes inspired by quasi-topological gravity
A new family of 2D dilaton-gravity models produces exact, regular black hole metrics whose curvature obeys a universal scaling law and a linear master equation.

Inner horizon instability via the trace anomaly effective action
The anomaly-induced effective action can reproduce the Hartle-Hawking stress-energy divergence at the Cauchy horizon of Reissner-Nordström, but lacks enough freedom to describe the Unruh state.

First Law for Nonsingular Black Holes in 2D Dilaton Gravity
For 2D nonsingular dilaton black holes with A=f+c, the first law holds with energy E=-c/2 once the asymptotic time translation is properly normalized.

Towards a Non-singular Paradigm of Black Hole Physics
