abstract

The abundance of rich clusters is a strong constraint on the mass power spectrum. The current constraint can be expressed in the form $\sigma_8 \Omega_m^{\gamma} = 0.5 \pm 0.1$ where $\sigma_8$ is the $rms$ mass fluctuation on 8 $h^{-1}$ Mpc scales, $\Omega_m$ is the ratio of matter density to the critical density, and $\gamma$ is model-dependent. In this paper, we determine a general expression for $\gamma$ that applies to any models with a mixture of cold dark matter plus cosmological constant or quintessence (a time-evolving, spatially-inhomogeneous component with negative pressure) including dependence on the spectral index $n$, the Hubble constant $h$, and the equation-of-state of the quintessence component $w$. The cluster constraint is combined with COBE measurements to identify a spectrum of best-fitting models. The constraint from the evolution of rich clusters is also discussed.

  1. Realizing the phantom-divide crossing with vector and scalar fields

    astro-ph.CO 2026-01 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A scalar-vector-tensor dark-energy model crosses the phantom divide at low redshift with no ghost or Laplacian instabilities and growth signatures close to LCDM.

  2. Spherical Collapse and Halo Formation in a Cosmology with Decaying Dark Matter and a Semi-Cosmographic Dark Energy

    astro-ph.CO 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

In a decaying dark matter plus semi-cosmographic dark energy cosmology constrained by DESI BAO and ShapeFit, the spherical collapse threshold stays close to the ΛCDM value while massive halo abundance shows pronounced...

  3. Impact of inhomogeneous curvature on growth rate measurements from magnitude fluctuations

    astro-ph.CO 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

Full-GR simulations find that inhomogeneous curvature produces only sub-dominant systematic offsets in growth-rate measurements from magnitude fluctuations at z ≲ 0.2 relative to current statistical errors.

  4. Testing Quasi-Linear Coasting Cosmologies with Late-Time Large-Scale Structure Growth

    astro-ph.CO 2025-06 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

A closed-form growth factor for linearly expanding (coasting) cosmologies is derived and fit to fσ8 data, showing all tested models are consistent but Lambda-CDM is statistically preferred.

  5. Teleparallel dark energy in a nonflat universe

    gr-qc 2025-05 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

Nonflat teleparallel dark energy with a vanishing potential is statistically favored over Lambda CDM in the authors' MCMC fit and mildly prefers an open universe.

  6. Modified Gravity Theories on a Nutshell: Inflation, Bounce and Late-time Evolution

    gr-qc 2017-05 accept novelty 2.0 of 10

Modified gravity theories supply viable mathematical frameworks for inflation, bounces, and dark energy eras that match observational data.
