We study a two-parameter family of Wilson loop operators in N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory which interpolates smoothly between the 1/2 BPS line or circle and a pair of antiparallel lines. These observables capture a natural generalization of the quark-antiquark potential. We calculate these loops on the gauge theory side to second order in perturbation theory and in a semiclassical expansion in string theory to one-loop order. The resulting determinants are given in integral form and can be evaluated numerically for general values of the parameters or analytically in a systematic expansion around the 1/2 BPS configuration. We comment about the feasibility of deriving all-loop results for these Wilson loops.

  1. Two-loop four-point amplitudes on the Coulomb branch of ${\mathcal{N}}=4$ super Yang-Mills

    hep-th 2025-01 conditional novelty 8.0 of 10

The subleading Regge-limit exponent of a Coulomb branch four-point amplitude in N=4 SYM matches the anomalous dimension of a cusped Wilson loop with a scalar insertion, known from integrability.

  2. Strongly Coupled Soft Functions

    hep-ph 2026-08 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

The cusp anomalous dimension at strong coupling is obtained for all rapidity separations from two competing string saddles, and the transversely-separated two-cusp Wilson loop scales as (b_perp^2 Lambda^2)^{-Re Gamma_cusp}.

  3. Quark Anti-Quark Fusion and Walking RG Flows

    hep-th 2026-07 unverdicted novelty 7.0 of 10

Fusion of conjugate line defects exhibits walking RG at criticality with SL(2,R) Casimir fixing scheme-independent spectrum density, derived exactly in N=4 SYM via Quantum Spectral Curve.

  4. Non-planar corrections to ABJM Bremsstrahlung function from quantum M2 brane

    hep-th 2025-01 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

    The one-loop M2 brane partition function in AdS4 x S7/Z_k reproduces B_1 = -(1/(2π k)) cot(2π/k), the localization value for the ABJM Bremsstrahlung function.

  5. Vacuum configuration of winding superstrings from non-standard semiclassical quantization

    hep-th 2025-01 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A non-standard off-shell quantization of the worldsheet metric yields a self-consistent vacuum configuration and Hagedorn temperatures for confining holographic theories, reproducing known next-to-leading order and pr...
