This review focus on some issues which seem relevant to recent discussions: (1) how halo structure influences tail length, (2) the fate of power-law density cusps, (3) the results of unequal-mass disk galaxy mergers, and (4) the behavior of hot and cold gas in merging disk galaxies.

Reviewed papers in the Pith corpus that reference this work. Sorted by Pith novelty score.

  1. Too many quiescent late-type galaxies or a matter of misclassification?

    astro-ph.GA 2026-07 accept novelty 6.0

Quiescent late-type galaxies in SDSS morphological catalogues are overestimated by a factor of ~2 due to misclassified edge-on S0 galaxies.

  2. Fuelling the central region of galaxies with misaligned gas accretion

    astro-ph.GA 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0

Kinematically misaligned gas accretion sustains main-sequence-level star formation only below ~1e10 Msun; above that, central gas is present but dilution by pre-existing mass keeps specific star formation low.
