We add a gravitational background lattice to the simplest holographic model of matter at finite density and calculate the optical conductivity. With the lattice, the zero frequency delta function found in previous calculations (resulting from translation invariance) is broadened and the DC conductivity is finite. The optical conductivity exhibits a Drude peak with a cross-over to power-law behavior at higher frequencies. Surprisingly, these results bear a strong resemblance to the properties of some of the cuprates.

  1. Disordered Charged Horizons

    hep-th 2025-09 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Fully backreacted disordered charged black branes show disorder survives in the infrared of AdS4, producing residual resistivity, but decays in AdS3, indicating a Harris-criterion violation in strongly coupled systems.

  2. The role of torsion in holographic conductivity

    hep-th 2025-01 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Holographic conductivity computed in a torsionful Riemann-Cartan bulk shows a Drude peak and metal-insulator crossover when the photon couples non-minimally to torsion, with σ_DC = √μ + 3γ²δ²/√μ.

  3. Testing the effective action approach to bubble nucleation in holography

    hep-th 2025-07 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

A two-derivative holographic effective action reproduces critical bubble solutions from the full gravity theory to within a few percent across thin-wall and thick-wall regimes.

  4. Thermodynamics and DC conductivity of 2D anisotropic fluids from axion holography

    hep-th 2024-12 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

An anisotropic, single-axion holographic fluid is thermodynamically stable for all studied anisotropy and charge, with DC conductivity that vanishes at large anisotropy and passes through a metal-insulator transition.

  5. Holographic striped superconductor with ionic lattice

    hep-th 2024-11 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

In a holographic model, a stronger ionic lattice suppresses the charge density wave phase, enhances the superconducting phase, and makes their coexisting striped superconducting state the most stable.

  6. AC charge transport in holographic Horndeski gravity

    hep-th 2019-08 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

A holographic Horndeski model is found to exhibit a temperature-driven metal-semiconductor crossover, with AC conductivity that fits the Drude formula in the slow-relaxation regime.
