Electromagnetic energy loss of tau leptons is an important ingredient for eventual tau neutrino detection from high energy astrophysical sources. Proposals have been made to use mountains as neutrino converters, in which the emerging tau decays in an air shower. We use a stochastic evaluation of both tau neutrino conversion to taus and of tau electromagnetic energy loss. We examine the effects of the propagation for mono-energetic incident tau neutrinos as well as for several neutrino power-law spectra. Our main result is a parameterization of the tau electromagnetic energy loss parameter beta. We compare our analytic expression for the tau flux using this beta with other parameterizations of beta.

  1. Four, One, and None: Quantifying the Ultra-High-Energy Neutrino Anomaly Across ANITA-IV, KM3NeT, and IceCube

    astro-ph.HE 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0

A joint three-detector analysis finds that ANITA-IV's four events and KM3NeT's 220 PeV event cannot be reconciled with IceCube's silence under any Standard Model diffuse or transient flux, leaving a 5.9-7.9σ anomaly.

  2. Attenuation of the ultra-high-energy neutrino flux by dark matter scatterings

    hep-ph 2025-08 unverdicted novelty 5.0

UHE neutrino flux is attenuated by DM scatterings in intergalactic and galactic media, enabling cross-section limits from events like KM3230213A under mild astrophysical assumptions.
