We consider a spherically symmetric characteristic initial value problem for the Einstein-Maxwell-scalar field equations. On the initial outgoing characteristic, the data is assumed to satisfy the Price law decay widely believed to hold on an event horizon arising from the collapse of an asymptotically flat Cauchy surface. We establish that the heuristic mass inflation scenario put forth by Israel and Poisson is mathematically correct in the context of this initial value problem. In particular, the maximal domain of development has a future boundary, over which the spacetime is extendible as a continuous metric, but along which the Hawking mass blows up identically; thus, the spacetime is inextendible as a differentiable metric. In view of recent results of the author in collaboration with I. Rodnianski (gr-qc/0309115), which rigorously establish the validity of Price's law as an upper bound for the decay of scalar field hair, the continuous extendibility result applies to the collapse of complete asymptotically flat spacelike data where the scalar field is compactly supported on the initial hypersurface. This shows that under Christodoulou's C^0 formulation, the strong cosmic censorship conjecture is false for this system.

  1. Scalar perturbations and strong cosmic censorship in a regular ABGB-de Sitter black hole spacetime

    gr-qc 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0

In regular ABGB-de Sitter black holes, near-extremal scalar perturbations decay fast enough (β>1/2) to violate strong cosmic censorship, and adding scalar mass can push the regularity parameter past β=1.

  2. Kerr black holes without primary hairs

    gr-qc 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0

Explicit infinite family of axisymmetric black holes with a Kerr exterior, a regular or mildly singular interior controlled by free exponents n_i, and no additional asymptotic charges.

  3. Anomaly-driven evaporation endpoints of a two-dimensional regular black hole

    hep-th 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 4.0

The FFN dilaton-coupled anomaly model applied to the 2D Bardeen-like black hole enforces r_∞=√2 ℓ for quiescent finite-radius branches and excludes most null branches except the borderline p=2 power-law case under str...

  4. Interior Dynamics of Regular Schwarzschild Black Holes

    gr-qc 2025-08 unverdicted novelty 4.0

Dynamical evolution of Schwarzschild black holes produces new interior singularities absent in the static case, with resolution imposing highly restrictive conditions on gravitational collapse.

  5. Testing the nature of dark compact objects: a status report

    gr-qc 2019-04 accept novelty 2.0

Current and future observations can test whether dark compact objects are Kerr black holes or exotic alternatives, with null results strengthening the black hole paradigm.
