We calculate bulk and boundary correlators in JT gravity by summing over geometries. The answers are reproduced by computing suitable ensemble averages of correlators of chaotic quantum systems. We then consider bulk correlators at large spatial separations and find that semiclassical decay eventually makes way for erratic oscillations around some nonzero answer. There is no cluster decomposition because of wormholes connecting distant regions. We construct more microscopic versions of JT gravity which are dual to a single quantum system by including a set of branes in the gravitational theory the data of which describes the Hamiltonian of the dual system. We focus on the bulk description of eigenstates which involves end of the world branes and we explain how observables factorize due to geometries connecting to these branes.

  1. Evaporating Black Hole Interior and Complexity Evolution

    hep-th 2026-05 conditional novelty 7.0

In JT gravity with an end-of-the-world brane, the renormalized interior length — read as subsystem complexity — grows linearly, peaks around the Page time, and then decays exponentially, with growing relative fluctuat...

  2. Living on the edge: a non-perturbative resolution to the negativity of bulk entropies

    hep-th 2025-09 unverdicted novelty 7.0

Summing non-perturbative contributions in the gravitational path integral, extended via matrix integral saddles including one- and two-eigenvalue instantons, resolves negativity of bulk entropies in two-sided black holes.

  3. Evaporating Black Hole Interior and Complexity Evolution

    hep-th 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 6.0

In a JT gravity model with an EoW brane, black hole interior complexity grows linearly until the Page time then decays exponentially, with fluctuations growing large afterward and signaling loss of self-averaging.

  4. Fiducial observers and the thermal atmosphere in the black hole quantum throat

    hep-th 2025-07 unverdicted novelty 6.0

A semiclassical construction of fiducial observers in JT gravity, fixed by conformal isometry flow, is extended to the quantum regime to compute wormhole contributions yielding finite thermal entropy and a quantum des...

  5. Topology sums, sectorwise holography, and horizon normalcy

    hep-th 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 5.0

When topology sums generate nontrivial baby-universe sectors, the holography of information refines to an alpha-sectorwise statement, making the absence of firewalls conditional on global sector data rather than local...
