We calculate the gravitational waveform for spinning, precessing compact binary inspirals through second post-Newtonian order in the amplitude. When spins are collinear with the orbital angular momentum and the orbits are quasi-circular, we further provide explicit expressions for the gravitational-wave polarizations and the decomposition into spin-weighted spherical-harmonic modes. Knowledge of the second post-Newtonian spin terms in the waveform could be used to improve the physical content of analytical templates for data analysis of compact binary inspirals and for more accurate comparisons with numerical-relativity simulations.

  1. Testing the nature of compact objects in the lower mass gap using gravitational wave observations

    astro-ph.HE 2025-09 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Simulated low-mass-gap boson star binaries are severely mis-measured when analyzed with black hole waveform models, but a model including both spin-induced quadrupole and tidal effects recovers the correct masses.

  2. Spin effects in the phasing formula of eccentric compact binary inspirals up to the third post-Newtonian order

    gr-qc 2024-12 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

Closed-form post-Newtonian phasing formulas for eccentric, spin-aligned compact binary inspirals are derived to 3PN order and to eighth order in initial eccentricity, with a resummation extending validity to e0 around 0.55.
