MAGIS-100 is a next-generation quantum sensor under construction at Fermilab that aims to explore fundamental physics with atom interferometry over a 100-meter baseline. This novel detector will search for ultralight dark matter, test quantum mechanics in new regimes, and serve as a technology pathfinder for future gravitational wave detectors in a previously unexplored frequency band. It combines techniques demonstrated in state-of-the-art 10-meter-scale atom interferometers with the latest technological advances of the world's best atomic clocks. MAGIS-100 will provide a development platform for a future kilometer-scale detector that would be sufficiently sensitive to detect gravitational waves from known sources. Here we present the science case for the MAGIS concept, review the operating principles of the detector, describe the instrument design, and study the detector systematics.

  1. Detecting gravitational signatures of dark matter with atom gradiometers

    hep-ph 2025-05 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Atom gradiometers, especially a space-based AEDGE+-like design, could probe a 10% dark matter clump subcomponent in the 10^6 to 10^10 kg window and order-10 ultralight dark matter overdensities through purely gravitat...

  2. High-Frequency Gravitational Wave Detection with Superconducting Qubits

    hep-ph 2026-08 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

An idealized model shows that Dicke-entangled transmon qubits at the TE212 cavity mode could reach a strain sensitivity of about 5.6e-26 at 5 GHz, scaling as n_q^{-3/4}.

  3. Characterisation of the Bedretto Underground Site for Fundamental Physics Experiments

    astro-ph.IM 2025-12 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

The Bedretto tunnel's ~4000 m.w.e. depth, low muon flux, and very low seismic/magnetic noise make it a strong candidate for a European deep-underground physics laboratory.

  4. Complementary Probes of Warped Extra Dimension: Colliders, Gravitational Waves and Primordial Black Holes from Phase Transitions

    hep-ph 2025-02 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

In Randall-Sundrum warped extra dimension models, the supercooled radion phase transition can form primordial black holes that account for all of dark matter for IR scales 10 TeV to 10^4 TeV, with correlated gravitati...

  5. Massive graviton dark matter searches with long-baseline atom interferometers

    hep-ph 2024-12 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Long-baseline atom interferometers could detect ultra-light spin-2 dark matter through three coupling channels, reaching mass and coupling ranges that LIGO and LISA cannot cover.

  6. Characterisation of a strontium cold atom source using fluorescence spectroscopy and time-of-flight

    physics.atom-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

At push saturation 0.45 a strontium 2D-MOT source delivers about 1.5–1.7×10^8 capturable atoms/s below 30 m/s, with unidirectional-probe data scaled by a simulation factor to match counter-propagating results.
