Love numbers of compact objects quantify their tidal deformability against external perturbations. It is expected that Love numbers of asymptotically flat black holes (BHs) in General Relativity are identically zero. We show that quite contrary to common expectations, the tidal Love numbers of asymptotically de Sitter black holes are non-zero.

  1. Running Love Numbers and the Effective Field Theory of Gravity

    hep-th 2025-01 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Higher-derivative gravity corrections induce non-zero, classically running tidal Love numbers for black holes, computed here with a new tidal Green function method.

  2. The Ringdown and the Tide: Fingerprints of Dark Matter Halo Profiles

    gr-qc 2026-08 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

For black holes in generalized (alpha, beta, gamma) dark matter halos, the axial ringdown shift is set by a single redshift integral, while the tidal Love number depends on an outer radial moment, making the two observa...

  3. Tidal Love numbers and quasi-normal modes of the Schwarzschild-Hernquist black hole

    gr-qc 2024-12 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

For a Schwarzschild black hole in a relativistic Hernquist dark matter halo, quasinormal-mode frequency shifts scale as (MDM/rs)^(3/2) rather than linearly, while tidal Love numbers are small and sensitive to the choi...

  4. Tidal deformation of an accreting compact object

    gr-qc 2026-07 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

For perfectly reflecting Schwarzschild-like ECOs, the log-compactness scaling of static scalar and spin-1 Love numbers survives a thin accretion disk, which mainly amplifies the response magnitude.
