The BISOU (Balloon Interferometer for Spectral Observations of the Universe) project aims to study the viability and prospects of a balloon-borne spectrometer, pathfinder of a future space mission dedicated to the measurements of the CMB spectral distortions. We present here a preliminary concept based on previous space mission proposals, together with some sensitivity calculation results for the observation goals, showing that a 5-sigma measurement of the y-distortions is achievable.

  1. Spectral distortion anisotropies from photon to dark photon conversions

    astro-ph.CO 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 7.0

Computes anisotropic CMB spectral distortion power spectra from photon-dark photon conversions, finding that mass controls multipole shape and mixing sets amplitude, then places Planck limits on the minimal model.

  2. spectroxide: A code package for computing cosmic microwave background spectral distortions

    astro-ph.CO 2026-04 conditional novelty 7.0

Spectroxide is a publicly available code package that evolves the photon Boltzmann equation from z ~ 5e6 to today to calculate CMB spectral distortions caused by heat or photon injection, with all code and tests gener...

  3. FLAMINGO: The thermal history of the Universe from tSZ effect cross-correlations and its dependencies on cosmology and baryon physics

    astro-ph.CO 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 6.0

FLAMINGO simulations show tSZ cross-correlations scale as S8 to the power of about 3 and favor low S8=0.72 with strong feedback when compared to SDSS, BOSS, DES, and Planck data.

  4. FLAMINGO: The thermal history of the Universe from tSZ effect cross-correlations and its dependencies on cosmology and baryon physics

    astro-ph.CO 2026-05 conditional novelty 6.0

tSZ cross-correlations with large-scale structure tracers prefer low S8 and strong baryonic feedback, yielding S8 = 0.72 and low group baryon fraction in FLAMINGO simulations.

  5. Joint probes of dark matter annihilation from neutrino detectors and CMB targets

    hep-ph 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 4.0

Joint analysis of neutrino detectors and CMB observables can constrain dark matter annihilation into neutrinos for MeV-GeV masses.
