We consider a class of metric-affine gravitational theories with action quadratic in curvature and torsion tensors. Using the heat kernel technique, we compute the torsion contributions to the one-loop counterterms in the ultraviolet limit. It is found that vectorial and axial components of torsion preserve the qualitative picture of the renormalization group flow of the metric sector. However, there exists a specific nonminimal kinetic term for the pure tensorial (hook-antisymmetric traceless) component of torsion that renders the gravitational couplings asymptotically free in the absence of tachyons.

Conformal gauge theory of vector-spinors and spin-3/2 particles
A conformal gauge theory for vector-spinors is constructed that is Weyl invariant when massless, propagates a massive spin-3/2 mode together with a negative-norm spin-1/2 state of double the mass, and satisfies the Ho...

Infrared foundations for quantum geometry II: Catalogue of all torsion-like theories including new ghost-tachyon-free cases
A systematic catalogue of symmetric pair-antisymmetric rank-three field theories yields 22 ghost-tachyon-free models, all propagating vector torsion and none propagating scalar or pseudoscalar torsion.

Extrinsic geometry and Hamiltonian analysis of symmetric teleparallel gravity
Symmetric teleparallel gravity has the same number of degrees of freedom as general relativity, confirmed via its Hamiltonian formulation after deriving generalized extrinsic geometry relations.
