We revisit the "fareytail expansions" of elliptic genera which have been used in discussions of the AdS_3/CFT_2 correspondence and the OSV conjecture. We show how to write such expansions without the use of the problematic "fareytail transform." In particular, we show how to write a general vector-valued modular form of non-positive weight as a convergent sum over cosets of SL(2,Z). This sum suggests a new regularization of the gravity path integral in AdS_3, resolves the puzzles associated with the "fareytail transform," and leads to several new insights. We discuss constraints on the polar coefficients of negative weight modular forms arising from modular invariance, showing how these are related to Fourier coefficients of positive weight cusp forms. In addition, we discuss the appearance of holomorphic anomalies in the context of the fareytail.

  1. Critical dimensions and small cycle dominance from all-orders asymptotics of $d$-matrix theory

    hep-th 2026-03 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

The weighted partition numbers of d-matrix theory admit an all-orders asymptotic expansion that switches from divergent to convergent at d=13 (bosonic) or 7 (fermionic).

  2. Revisiting the Quantum Geometry of Torus-fibered Calabi-Yau Threefolds

    hep-th 2025-10 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

The conjectured Jacobi modularity of topological string amplitudes on torus-fibered Calabi-Yau threefolds is derived conditionally from the wave-function property under the relative conifold monodromy, which also maps...

  3. Uniqueness of D=8 minimal supergravity with two vector multiplets

    hep-th 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

Under a duality symmetry assumption, minimal supergravity coupled to two vector multiplets in D=8 is uniquely fixed in the BPS sector by anomaly cancellation, uplifts, and gauge enhancement.

  4. Mock modularity of Calabi-Yau threefolds

    hep-th 2024-11 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

The paper constructs explicit indefinite theta series solving the modular anomaly for rank 0 DT invariants, fixing these generating functions up to modular forms determined by polar terms.

  5. Mock modularity at work, or black holes in a forest

    hep-th 2025-05 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

Generating functions of D4-D2-D0 BPS black hole microstates in Calabi-Yau compactifications are higher-depth mock modular forms, and solving their anomaly equations determines exact degeneracies and topological invariants.

  6. Aspects of strings without spacetime supersymmetry

    hep-th 2025-09 unverdicted novelty 2.0 of 10

A survey of tachyons and tadpoles in non-supersymmetric closed and orientifold strings, including ten-dimensional models and landscape attempts.
