abstract

A particular higher-derivative extension of the Einstein-Hilbert action in three spacetime dimensions is shown to be equivalent at the linearized level to the (unitary) Pauli-Fierz action for a massive spin-2 field. A more general model, which also includes `topologically-massive' gravity as a special case, propagates the two spin 2 helicity states with different masses. We discuss the extension to massive ${\cal N}$-extended supergravity, and we present a `cosmological' extension that admits an anti-de Sitter vacuum.

  1. Explicit and covariant formula for thermodynamic volume in extended black hole thermodynamics

    gr-qc 2025-12 unverdicted novelty 7.0 of 10

An explicit covariant formula for thermodynamic volume is derived that universally decomposes into explicit Lagrangian coupling dependence plus dynamical field response contributions.

  2. Gravitational focusing and horizon entropy for higher-spin fields

    gr-qc 2024-12 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Higher-spin fields introduce indefinite terms into the generalized Raychaudhuri equation on Killing horizons, blocking a focusing theorem and a well-defined Wall entropy unless a proposed focusing condition is imposed.

  3. Cosmological higher-curvature gravities

    gr-qc 2023-11 unverdicted novelty 7.0 of 10

Higher-curvature gravities are constructed in which both FLRW backgrounds and linearized scalar perturbations obey at most second-order differential equations.

  4. Minimal Massive Gravity Coupled to Higher Spins

    hep-th 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Minimal Massive Gravity is coupled to a finite sl(N) tower of higher-spin fields, giving a Stückelberg formulation, AdS2 x S1 hair solutions, and two massive modes (spin j and j-2) for each spin-j > 2 field.

  5. Scalarization of Charged Black Hole in Gauss-Bonnet Extended Starobinsky-Maxwell Gravity

    gr-qc 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

In Gauss-Bonnet-extended Starobinsky gravity, scalarized black holes form two smoothly joined branches at fixed coupling; adding a Maxwell field can split the family into disconnected branches, and the first law is ch...

  6. Chern-Simons-like formulation of 3D MMG-like massive gravity models

    hep-th 2026-01 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

The simplest MMG-like third-way gravity model has unavoidable ghosts/tachyons, and at a chiral degenerate point its mass operator forms a rank-3 Jordan block, suggesting an ultra-logarithmic dual CFT.

  7. Extended Near Horizon Symmetries of Extremal BTZ Black Holes in 3D Massive Gravity

    hep-th 2024-12 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Near-horizon extremal BTZ black holes in NMG and TMG carry two Virasoro algebras whose central charges equal their spatial-infinity values.

  8. Logarithmic corrections to the entropy of near-extremal black holes in New Massive Gravity

    hep-th 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

One-loop partition function from boundary graviton zero modes in the near-horizon AdS2 x S1 geometry produces logarithmic corrections to the semiclassical entropy of near-extremal black holes in New Massive Gravity.

  9. Thermodynamic Stability and Fluctuations of the (2+1)-dimensional GMG Warped Black Hole

    hep-th 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 4.0 of 10

Thermodynamic instability and fluctuation analysis of the GMG warped black hole, including exact on-shell angular momentum trajectories and thermodynamic lengths for isentropic/isoenergetic processes.

  10. A Universal Smarr Formula via Coupling Constants

    gr-qc 2025-11 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

Coupling constants promoted to conserved charges make the Smarr formula work for black holes in NMG, Horndeski, MTZ, and higher-curvature gravity.

  11. Note on WAdS$_3$ black holes in extended BHT gravity

    hep-th 2024-11 conditional novelty 3.0 of 10

Using Wald's formalism and the thermodynamics method, the paper computes conserved charges and dual CFT central charges for WAdS3 black holes in NMG and ENMG, finding results consistent with earlier work.
