We give a general overview of the high-frequency regime in periodically driven systems and identify three distinct classes of driving protocols in which the infinite-frequency Floquet Hamiltonian is not equal to the time-averaged Hamiltonian. These classes cover systems, such as the Kapitza pendulum, the Harper-Hofstadter model of neutral atoms in a magnetic field, the Haldane Floquet Chern insulator and others. In all setups considered, we discuss both the infinite-frequency limit and the leading finite-frequency corrections to the Floquet Hamiltonian. We provide a short overview of Floquet theory focusing on the gauge structure associated with the choice of stroboscopic frame and the differences between stroboscopic and non-stroboscopic dynamics. In the latter case one has to work with dressed operators representing observables and a dressed density matrix. We also comment on the application of Floquet Theory to systems described by static Hamiltonians with well-separated energy scales and, in particular, discuss parallels between the inverse-frequency expansion and the Schrieffer-Wolff transformation extending the latter to driven systems.

  1. Long-Range Prethermal Phases of Nonequilibrium Matter

    cond-mat.stat-mech 2019-08 conditional novelty 8.0 of 10

The paper proves, with one explicit assumption in the intermediate regime, that prethermal Floquet phases exist for power-law interacting systems with exponent alpha > d, and predicts a disorder-free one-dimensional p...

  2. Strong Zero Modes in Supersymmetry-Inspired Quantum Circuits

    quant-ph 2026-07 accept novelty 6.5 of 10

SUSY-inspired brick-wall circuits support both edge-localized and ballistically propagating strong zero modes that can be steered by mass parameters and used for quantum-information transport.

  3. Dynamical Polarization from Hidden Spin and Orbital Textures in p-Wave Magnets

    cond-mat.mes-hall 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Optically driven p-wave magnets develop a resonantly enhanced ac spin polarization at the 2J_sd exchange gap and a rectified, polarization-controlled dc orbital polarization invisible to period-averaged treatments.

  4. Floquet framework for driven polar quantum systems

    quant-ph 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

Derives first-order Floquet effective Hamiltonian for polar driven two-level systems giving modified transverse coupling and detuning, plus a numerical flow-equation method valid across wider coupling ranges.

  5. Sign-Flipping Axion Potentials via Kapitza-Type Modulation by Heavy Axions

    hep-ph 2025-09 accept novelty 6.0 of 10

Coherent oscillations of a heavy axion change the sign of a light axion's effective potential, trapping it in a false vacuum and boosting its dark matter abundance.

  6. Krylov Complexity in Periodically Driven CFTs and Critical Fermions

    hep-th 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

Arnoldi coefficients approach unity exponentially in heating phases of driven CFTs but oscillate in non-heating phases; lattice realizations show distinct spectral and graph signatures despite similar CFT Krylov growth.

  7. Coherent and dissipative dynamics at quantum phase transitions

    cond-mat.stat-mech 2021-03 unverdicted novelty 2.0 of 10

A review of equilibrium and dynamic scaling laws at quantum phase transitions, including quenches and dissipative effects treated as perturbations to critical regimes.
