A systematic way of generating sets of local boundary conditions on the gauge fields in a path integral is presented. These boundary conditions are suitable for one--loop effective action calculations on manifolds with boundary and for quantum cosmology. For linearised gravity, the general proceedure described here leads to new sets of boundary conditions.

  1. A Linearized Obstruction to the Supersymmetric Extension of Conformal Boundary Conditions in Euclidean Gravity

    hep-th 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

Witten's conformal boundary condition admits no half-supersymmetric extension in linearized minimal supergravity because supersymmetry maps the natural gravitino datum to the trace-free extrinsic curvature left unfixe...

  2. Dynamical edge modes in Maxwell theory from a BRST perspective, with an application to the Casimir energy

    hep-th 2024-12 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

DEM boundary conditions on two parallel plates yield the same Casimir energy as perfectly conducting plates, after restoring BRST invariance with boundary ghost fields.
