We review the E(8) model of the M-theory 3-form and its applications to anomaly cancellation, Gauss laws, quantization of Page charge, and the 5-brane partition function. We discuss the potentially problematic behavior of the model under parity.

  1. Airy functions from quantum M-theory

    hep-th 2026-07 conditional novelty 8.0

Airy function partition functions for M2-brane theories are derived from relative equivariant localization of quantum M-theory, with the 11D Chern-Simons term giving the cubic term and X₈ giving the charge shift.

  2. Airy functions from quantum M-theory

    hep-th 2026-07 conditional novelty 7.0

Relative equivariant localization of quantum M-theory reproduces the Airy partition functions of ABJM and toric Calabi-Yau M2-brane theories, up to prefactor and non-perturbative corrections.

  3. Symmetry TFTs from String Theory

    hep-th 2021-12 unverdicted novelty 7.0

Constructs Symmetry TFTs for M-theory compactifications by reducing the topological sector of 11d supergravity on the boundary of X using differential cohomology, with applications to 7d SYM and 5d SCFTs confirmed via...

  4. Continuous symmetries and charge measurement of boundary operators in holography

    hep-th 2026-02 conditional novelty 6.0

Continuous symmetry operators in holography are U-shaped hanging brane bound states (D5-KK in Type IIB, M5-KK in M-theory) whose worldvolume couplings reproduce the Gauss-law symmetry operators and measure charges of ...

  5. Anomaly-induced vanishing of brane partition functions

    hep-th 2025-10 conditional novelty 6.0

Anomalies imply vanishing brane partition functions; this yields unified derivations of the Freed-Witten and M5 shifted-quantization conditions and new S-fold D3-brane constraints.
