We present an improved Global Sky Model (GSM) of diffuse galactic radio emission from 10 MHz to 5 THz, whose uses include foreground modeling for CMB and 21 cm cosmology. Our model improves on past work both algorithmically and by adding new data sets such as the Planck maps and the enhanced Haslam map. Our method generalizes the Principal Component Analysis approach to handle non-overlapping regions, enabling the inclusion of 29 sky maps with no region of the sky common to all. We also perform a blind separation of our GSM into physical components with a method that makes no assumptions about physical emission mechanisms (synchrotron, free-free, dust, etc). Remarkably, this blind method automatically finds five components that have previously only been found "by hand", which we identify with synchrotron, free-free, cold dust, warm dust, and the CMB anisotropy, with maps and spectra agreeing with previous work but in many cases with smaller error bars. The improved GSM is available online at github.com/jeffzhen/gsm2016.

  1. Characterising the response of an International LOFAR Station

    astro-ph.IM 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

International LOFAR stations are 20–45% more sensitive to sources on the rising side of the sky than the setting side, an asymmetry observed in all 11 tracked pulsars and across three stations.

  2. Intensity fluctuations of radio halo in galaxy cluster: Insights from power spectrum estimation

    astro-ph.CO 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Angular power spectra of 610 MHz radio halos show excess power-law fluctuations only in Abell 2744, requiring multiplicative C_ℓ ∝ ℓ^{-3} structure atop an exponential profile and consistent with ICM turbulence.

  3. Foreground Subtraction with a Tensor-Based Oriented Singular Value Decomposition Method for HI Experiments

    astro-ph.IM 2026-08 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

A tensor-oriented singular value decomposition can subtract radio foregrounds from 21 cm intensity mapping data while preserving more cosmological signal than standard PCA.

  4. meer21cm: an Analysis Pipeline and Comprehensive Toolkit for HI Intensity Mapping

    astro-ph.CO 2026-07 accept novelty 5.0 of 10

meer21cm is a publicly available Python toolkit for post-calibration analysis of single-dish HI intensity mapping surveys, achieving percent-level accuracy on simulated MeerKAT data in the k range 0.02-0.2 h/Mpc.

  5. Restoring Missing Modes of 21cm Intensity Mapping with Deep Learning: Impact on BAO Reconstruction

    astro-ph.CO 2024-12 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10
