Isolating Vector Boson Scattering at the LHC: gauge cancellations and the Equivalent Vector Boson Approximation vs complete calculations
read the original abstract
We have studied the possibility of extracting the $W^+W^-\to W^+W^-$ signal using the process $us\to cd W^+W^-$ as a test case. We have investigated numerically the strong gauge cancellations between signal and irreducible background, analysing critically the reliability of the Equivalent Vector Boson Approximation which is commonly used to define the signal. Complete matrix elements are necessary to study Electro--Weak Symmetry Breaking effects at high $WW$ invariant mass.

Evidence for longitudinally polarised $Z$ bosons in electroweak $W^{\pm}Z$ production in association with two jets from $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = $ 13 TeV and 13.6 TeV with the ATLAS detector
First measurement of the fraction of longitudinally polarised Z bosons in electroweak WZ+two-jet production: f_X0 = 0.32 ± 0.09, a 4.0σ signal consistent with the Standard Model.

Precision calculations for electroweak multi-boson processes
Electroweak corrections reach about -16% for like-sign WW scattering and -7% for triple-W production at the LHC, even for integrated cross sections, and the paper discusses approximations to full off-shell calculations.
