We study the quantum gravitational collapse of spherically symmetric pressureless dust. Using an effective equation derived from a polymer quantization in the connection-triad phase space variables of general relativity, we find numerically, for a variety of initial dust configurations, that (i) trapped surfaces form and disappear as an initially collapsing density profile evolves into an outgoing shockwave; (ii) black hole lifetime is proportional to the square of its mass; and (iii) there is no mass inflation at inner apparent horizons. These results provide a substantially different view of black hole formation and subsequent evolution than found from semiclassical analyses.

  1. Asymmetric Quantum Oppenheimer-Snyder Collapse

    gr-qc 2026-08 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Asymmetric loop-quantum-cosmology collapse of a dust ball yields a geodesically complete, bouncing regular black hole spacetime with a C^0 shock at the dust surface and two joined vacuum geometries.

  2. An effective Friedmann equation for a bouncing anisotropic universe

    gr-qc 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Derives the effective Friedmann equation and the exact parabolic shear–density relation at the bounce for polymer Bianchi-I, with constants −4, 4, 0 in the sharply peaked limit.

  3. Dust shell in effective loop quantum black hole model

    gr-qc 2025-06 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

In a polymerized loop-quantum-gravity black hole model, a collapsing dust shell bounces and, for sufficiently heavy shells, follows a spacelike trajectory through the horizon, implying a finite horizon lifetime and a ...

  4. Non-uniqueness of the shockwave dynamics in effective loop quantum gravity

    gr-qc 2025-02 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

In effective loop quantum gravity, an infinite family of mathematically equivalent collapse equations produce different weak solutions after shell crossing, so the predicted black hole lifetime (e.g., M^2, M^3, M^4) i...

  5. An analytic model for a total process of gravitational collapse: From star to Schwarzschild black hole

    gr-qc 2026-07 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

An exact spherically symmetric analytic collapse model grows an apparent horizon H(t) from zero to 2M while hiding an integrable central singularity and preserving weak cosmic censorship without exotic matter.

  6. Polymer Bianchi-I with polymer matter

    gr-qc 2025-09 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

In a Bianchi-I universe with polymer quantization of both geometry and a massless scalar, the matter polymer scale shifts the quantum bounce and alters volume and anisotropy evolution.

  7. Towards a Non-singular Paradigm of Black Hole Physics

    gr-qc 2025-01 unverdicted novelty 1.0 of 10

This is a review built around a week-long workshop, synthesizing the state and open problems of regular black holes and black hole mimickers as alternatives to singular black holes.
