Intermediate Mass Ratio Inspirals (IMRIs) will be observable with space-based gravitational wave detectors such as the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA). To this end, the environmental effects in such systems have to be modeled and understood. These effects can include (baryonic) accretion disks and dark matter (DM) overdensities, so called spikes. For the first time, we model an IMRI system with both an accretion disk and a DM spike present and compare their effects on the inspiral and the emitted gravitational wave signal. We study the eccentricity evolution, employ the braking index and derive the dephasing index, which turn out to be complementary observational signatures. They allow us to disentangle the accretion disk and DM spike effects in the IMRI system.

Environmental effects in extreme mass ratio inspirals: perturbations to the environment in Kerr
A perturbative calculation shows that a secondary body in Kerr spacetime creates a wake in a superradiant scalar cloud, with energy fluxes that differ from Schwarzschild predictions by tens of percent.

The cosmic history of Primordial Black Hole accretion and its uncertainties
Accounting for radiative feedback and formation-time effects, accretion grows primordial black holes by at most a few percent in the radiation era and negligibly in the baryonic Park-Ricotti model, while the Bondi mod...

Tidal Love numbers and quasi-normal modes of the Schwarzschild-Hernquist black hole
For a Schwarzschild black hole in a relativistic Hernquist dark matter halo, quasinormal-mode frequency shifts scale as (MDM/rs)^(3/2) rather than linearly, while tidal Love numbers are small and sensitive to the choi...

Probing dark matter halo profiles with multi-band observations of gravitational waves
A Fisher-matrix forecast shows that the proposed deci-Hz space detector GWSat would constrain dark matter spike density and slope around intermediate-mass ratio inspirals to sub-percent accuracy, while third-generatio...

Eccentricity-Modulated Phase Degeneracy and Distinguishability between Dark Matter and Accretion Disk Environmental Effects in EMRIs
DM dephasing in EMRIs is nearly eccentricity-independent while disk dephasing is strongly suppressed by e0, so residual SNR and distinguishability time favor slightly eccentric orbits for LISA separation of the two effects.

Probing vector gravitational atoms with eccentric intermediate mass-ratio inspirals
Eccentric intermediate-mass-ratio inspirals around vector gravitational atoms acquire faster decay, stronger circularization, and negative periastron precession, making the cloud visible to LISA-like detectors.
