abstract

We study theories with sixteen supercharges and a discrete energy spectrum. One class of theories has symmetry group $SU(2|4)$. They arise as truncations of ${\cal N}=4$ super Yang Mills. They include the plane wave matrix model, 2+1 super Yang Mills on $R \times S^2$ and ${\cal N}=4$ super Yang Mills on $R \times S^3/Z_k$. We explain how to obtain their gravity duals in a unified way. We explore the regions of the geometry that are relevant for the study of some 1/2 BPS and near BPS states. This leads to a class of two dimensional (4,4) supersymmetric sigma models with non-zero $H$ flux, including a massive deformed WZW model. We show how to match some features of the string spectrum with the Yang Mills theory. The other class of theories are also connected to ${\cal N}=4$ super Yang Mills and arise by making some of the transverse scalars compact. Their vacua are characterized by a 2d Yang Mills theory or 3d Chern Simons theory. These theories realize peculiar superpoincare symmetry algebras in 2+1 or 1+1 dimensions with "non-central" charges. We finally discuss gravity duals of ${\cal N}=4$ super Yang Mills on $AdS_3 \times S^1$.

  1. The AdS/$\mathsf{C}$-$\mathsf{P}$-${\mathsf T}$ Correspondence

    hep-th 2025-07 conditional novelty 8.0 of 10

N=4 super Yang-Mills has P and T symmetries that mix with CP and CT under S-duality, and these map to specific worldsheet and geometric symmetries of Type IIB string theory.

  2. Derivation of the NS5-brane limit of the plane wave matrix model

    hep-th 2026-07 accept novelty 7.0 of 10

A double-scaling limit of the BMN/plane-wave matrix model is derived analytically and produces an eigenvalue integral for the 1/4-BPS sector of IIA little string theory on R×S⁵.

  3. Berry Picking: Random Wave Chaos Hierarchy for BPS Microstate Geometries

    hep-th 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Wave chaos in BPS microstate geometries strengthens toward black-hole-like throats while geodesic chaos weakens, and weak-coupling CFT Renyi entropies do not share that bulk hierarchy.

  4. Krylov Complexity for Plane Wave Matrix Model

    hep-th 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

In reduced BMN matrix models, Lanczos coefficients scale linearly with the mass parameter, producing quadratic corrections to early-time Krylov complexity growth at the same order for both state and operator versions.

  5. Finite-$N$ BMN index across all vacuum sectors

    hep-th 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

Finite-N BMN index summed over all vacuum sectors for N≤9 reveals order-N² entropy growth that survives the sum and dominance switching from single- to double-partition sectors starting at N=5.

  6. Time-reversal invariant TQFTs from self-mirror symmetric SCFTs

    hep-th 2024-12 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

    Self-mirror symmetric Abelian 3d N=4 SCFTs deform to time-reversal invariant Abelian Chern-Simons theories, with a charge-matrix constraint Q Omega Q^T = 0 governing the correspondence.

  7. 3d $\mathcal{N}=4$ Mirror Symmetry, TQFTs, and 't Hooft Anomaly Matching

    hep-th 2024-12 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Universal mass deformations of 3d N=4 Abelian gauge theories flow to Abelian spin Chern-Simons TQFTs, with mirror symmetry descending to proven level-rank dualities and 't Hooft anomalies matched via vison fractionalization.

  8. Finite-temperature phase diagram of the BMN matrix model on the lattice

    hep-lat 2024-12 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Non-perturbative lattice calculations determine the BMN deconfinement temperature from the perturbative to the holographic regime, with evidence that the transition becomes continuous at weak coupling.
