abstract

In order to clarify the puzzling problems in double charm production, relativistic corrections at order $v^{2}$ to the processes $e^{+}e^{-}\to J/\psi+\eta_{c}$ and $e^{+}e^{-}\to J/\psi+c\bar{c}$ at B factories are studied in non-relativistic quantum chromodynamics. The short-distance parts of production cross sections are calculated perturbatively, while the long-distance matrix elements are estimated from $J/\psi$ and $\eta_c$ decays up to errors of order $v^4$. Our results show that the relativistic correction to the exclusive process $e^{+}e^{-}\to J/\psi+\eta_{c}$ is significant, which, when combined together with the next-to-leading order $\alpha_{s}$ corrections, could resolve the large discrepancy between theory and experiment; whereas for the inclusive process $e^{+}e^{-}\to J/\psi+c\bar{c}$ the relativistic correction is tiny and negligible. The physical reason for the above difference between exclusive and inclusive processes largely lies in the fact that in the exclusive process the relative momentum between quarks in charmonium substantially reduces the virtuality of the gluon that converts into a charm quark pair, but this is not the case for the inclusive process, in which the charm quark fragmentation $c\to J/\psi+c$ is significant, and QCD radiative corrections can be more essential.

  1. Analytical two-loop amplitudes of $e^{+} e^{-} \longrightarrow \boldsymbol{J} / \boldsymbol{\psi}+\boldsymbol{\eta}_c$ at $B$ factories

    hep-ph 2025-08 conditional novelty 7.0

The authors present the first analytical two-loop NRQCD amplitude for e+e- to J/psi+eta_c as an expansion in m_c^2/s, with cross-section predictions consistent (within uncertainties) with B-factory data.

  2. Revisiting relativistic corrections to inclusive $J/\psi$ production at B factories: Complete expansion for three-body quarkonium production

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0

Full final-state kinematic expansion yields scheme-independent O(v²) corrections of about −14.6% (cc̄) and +12% (non-cc̄) for inclusive J/ψ at B factories, yet tension with Belle data remains.

  3. Radiative decays $J/\psi,\,\psi(2S)\rightarrow\gamma\eta^{(\prime)}$ in perturbative QCD with relativistic corrections

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0

Order-q² relativistic corrections in pQCD roughly double J/ψ→γη(') rates and favor a smaller mixing angle, while ψ(2S) rates overshoot data and may require coherent ηc mixing.

  4. Semi-analytical two-loop QCD corrections to $e^+e^-\to J/\psi+\chi_{cJ}$ at B factories

    hep-ph 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 6.0

Semi-analytical NNLO QCD corrections to e+e- -> J/psi + chi_cJ are computed via asymptotic expansions, yielding large corrections that reduce scale dependence for some channels and a discrepancy with Belle data on the...
