Dirac showed that the existence of magnetic monopoles would imply quantization of electric charge. I discuss the converse, and propose two `principles of completeness' which I illustrate with various examples.

  1. Positivity of the gravitational path integral implies the axionic weak gravity conjecture

    hep-th 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 7.0

Positivity of gravitational path integral inner products requires non-perturbative instabilities in axion wormholes that break shift symmetry, implying a sharp axion weak gravity conjecture with precise constants.

  2. String probes, simple currents, and the no global symmetries conjecture

    hep-th 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 6.0

Chiral simple current extensions on the worldsheet reproduce and generalize obstructions to gauging center one-form symmetries in 6d and 8d string compactifications while clarifying BPS particle requirements upon circ...

  3. de Sitter Vacua & pUniverses

    hep-th 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 6.0

The p-Schwinger model on de Sitter space supports p distinct de Sitter-invariant vacua that are Hadamard, and coupling a multi-flavor version to gravity yields a semiclassical de Sitter saddle at large N_f.

  4. Sampling the Graviton Pole and Deprojecting the Swampland

    hep-th 2026-04 unverdicted novelty 6.0

A sampling-based bootstrap for graviton poles in EFTs yields non-projective bounds that fix the EFT cutoff scale relative to the Planck mass, with M/M_P ≲ 7.8 in D=5.
