We consider Dirichlet p-branes in type II string theory on a space which has been toroidally compactified in d dimensions. We give an explicit construction of the field theory description of this system by putting a countably infinite number of copies of each brane on the noncompact covering space, and modding out the resulting gauge theory by Z^d. The resulting theory is a gauge theory with graded fields corresponding to strings winding around the torus an arbitrary number of times. In accordance with T-duality, this theory is equivalent to the gauge theory for the dual system of (d + p)-branes wrapped around the compact directions, where the winding number is exchanged for momentum in the compact direction.

    hep-th 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 8.0 of 10

The Pfaffian phase in BFSS becomes an O(9) pseudoscalar operator in a bosonic matrix integral, requiring 10-loop order in the high-T expansion before the sign problem is detectable in the 't Hooft regime.

    hep-th 2026-07 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Horizon partons on the fuzzy sphere form lowest-Landau-level states under an intrinsic Berry monopole, generating Ohmic, Hall and polarization currents that a link-field condensate locks to the bulk Maxwell field, yie...

  3. The black hole S-matrix in gauge/gravity duality

    hep-th 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A unitary black hole S-matrix is built in AdS/CFT via collapsing brane shells; the black hole decays by exponentially rare brane emission, and the emitted branes are argued to be the original constituents, resolving t...

  4. D-branes and fractional instantons on a twisted four torus: the moduli space as an N=2 supersymmetric Higgs branch

    hep-th 2026-04 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

The local moduli space of self-dual fractional instantons (Q = r/N) on a twisted four-torus is the Higgs branch of an N=2 supersymmetric theory, obtained via wrapped intersecting D-brane configurations.

  5. Fuzzy Black Holes from Mass Generation in Matrix Compactification

    hep-th 2025-11 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Compactifying BFSS on T^3 with mixed fermion boundary conditions yields a mass-deformed theory whose fuzzy-sphere plus fermion configurations are proposed as Schwarzschild black holes with entropy S∼N.
