We present the detailed derivation of the charge one periodic instantons - or calorons - with non-trivial holonomy for SU(2). We use a suitable combination of the Nahm transformation and ADHM techniques. Our results rely on our ability to compute explicitly the relevant Green's function in terms of which the solution can be conveniently expressed. We also discuss the properties of the moduli space, R^3 X S^1 X Taub-NUT/Z_2 and its metric, relating the holonomy to the Taub-NUT mass parameter. We comment on the monopole constituent description of these calorons, how to retrieve topological charge in the context of abelian projection and possible applications to QCD.

  1. Fractional instantons in 2d $\mathbb{C}P^{N-1}$ model and 4d Yang-Mills theory with 't Hooft twists

    hep-th 2025-07 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Explicit theta-function solutions for fractional BPS lumps on a twisted torus are constructed, and the moduli space is a CP^(Nk+p-1) fiber bundle over a small torus, matching the index theorem.

  2. Self-dual monopole loops, instantons and confinement

    hep-th 2025-09 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Interactions among self-dual monopole-like constituents of instantons remove the infrared divergence and, the authors conjecture, drive confinement in 4d Yang-Mills.

  3. Holography for QCD(Adj) and QCD(Adj)+F

    hep-th 2025-06 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A holographic model treats QCD(Adj) instanton condensation and adjoint-fermion chiral condensation as BF bound violations, and predicts an order-of-magnitude scale gap when fundamentals are added.

  4. Bridging 4D QFTs and 2D VOAs via 3D high-temperature EFTs

    hep-th 2024-09 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

High-temperature limits on higher sheets of the superconformal index for (A1,A2n) Argyres-Douglas theories yield Gang-Kim-Stubbs 3d N=2 theories whose boundaries support Virasoro minimal model VOAs M(2,2n+3) and assoc...

  5. Metamorphosis of fractional instantons on a twisted $T^4$ with a double-trace deformation: a numerical study

    hep-th 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

Numerical lattice study shows fractional instantons on twisted T^4 morph into monopole-instantons and center vortices as geometry interpolates between R^{4-k} x T^k, with some transitions discontinuous under deformation.

  6. The Double Well Done Doubly-Well

    hep-th 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 3.0 of 10

Presents explicit trans-series calculations for the double-well spectrum via exact WKB and path integral approaches up to four-instanton level.
