The no-hair theorem of general relativity states that isolated black holes are characterized by three parameters: mass, spin, and charge. In this Letter we consider Kerr black holes endowed with highly magnetized plasma-filled magnetospheres. Using general relativistic kinetic plasma and resistive magnetohydrodynamics simulations, we show that a dipole magnetic field on the event horizon opens into a split-monopole and reconnects in a plasmoid-unstable current-sheet. The no-hair theorem is satisfied, in the sense that all components of the stress-energy tensor decay exponentially in time. We measure the decay time of magnetic flux on the event horizon for plasmoid-dominated reconnection in collisionless and collisional plasma. The reconnecting magnetosphere should be a powerful source of hard X-ray emission when the magnetic field is strong.

  1. Universality of the Blandford-Znajek emission in stationary and axisymmetric spacetimes

    gr-qc 2026-02 conditional novelty 7.0

The Blandford-Znajek jet luminosity is universal (∝Ω_h²) at leading order across parametric black-hole spacetimes and spacetime-dependent at next order, breaking the low-spin degeneracy for rapidly rotating holes.

  2. Charged particle dynamics in magnetosphere generated by current loop around Schwarzschild black hole

    gr-qc 2025-09 conditional novelty 6.0

In a Schwarzschild black hole magnetosphere sourced by an equatorial current loop, attractive Lorentz force configurations allow charged particles to accumulate near the loop and generate a ring current opposing the o...

  3. Short GRB 090510: a magnetized neutron star binary merger leading to a black hole

    astro-ph.HE 2025-09 conditional novelty 6.0

GRB 090510 is modeled as a merger of two ~1.2 solar mass neutron stars that forms a spinning 2.36 solar mass black hole, with each emission phase traced to a different energy source.
