The pith

A machine-rendered reading of the paper's core claim, the machinery that carries it, and where it could break.

This paper extends one-loop results by computing the five-loop semiclassical expansion of Krylov spread complexity in the double-scaled SYK model at infinite temperature, which equals the quantum wormhole length in sine-dilaton gravity. It applies singular perturbation to the operator Liouville-type equations of motion to obtain this expansion, and repeats the procedure for the Krylov variance and third cumulant. Small- and large-time behaviors are analyzed, with an all-order resummation derived for the large-time slope of the linear growth together with the leading non-perturbative corrections. A sympathetic reader would care because the equality links a gravitational length observable to an information-theoretic quantity in a solvable quantum model.

Core claim

In the infinite temperature limit, the five-loop semiclassical expansion of DSSYK complexity is obtained by singular perturbation of the operator Liouville-type equations of motion; the same method yields the connected two- and three-point functions of the length operator via variance and third cumulant; for the large-time slope of the wormhole linear growth the perturbative series admits an all-order resummation and leading non-perturbative corrections are determined.

What carries the argument

Singular perturbation of the operator Liouville-type equations of motion, which generates the higher-loop corrections to complexity and thus to wormhole length.

Load-bearing premise

The singular perturbation method applied to the operator Liouville-type equations of motion remains valid and controllable through five loops in the infinite temperature limit without uncontrolled higher-order effects.

What would settle it

A numerical or analytic computation of the six-loop term in the infinite-temperature DSSYK complexity that deviates from the pattern predicted by the five-loop result and the resummation would falsify the claim.

Watch this falsifier — get emailed when new claim-graph text bears on it.

If this is right

  • The wormhole length grows linearly at large times with a slope given by the resummed series.
  • The connected two- and three-point functions of the length operator at coincident points are obtained from the variance and third cumulant.
  • Small-time and large-time asymptotics of complexity, variance, and cumulant follow from the same expansion.
  • The method produces both perturbative coefficients and non-perturbative corrections to the slope.

Where Pith is reading between the lines

These are editorial extensions of the paper, not claims the author makes directly.

  • The equality between wormhole length and complexity may allow gravity-side observables to be read off from SYK correlation functions at higher loops.
  • The resummation technique could be tested by comparing against exact numerical diagonalization of finite-N SYK Hamiltonians in the double-scaled limit.
  • If the pattern persists, the all-order slope might admit a closed-form expression in terms of known functions of the model parameters.

Referee Report

Summary. The manuscript claims that the quantum wormhole length in sine-dilaton gravity equals the Krylov spread complexity in the double-scaled SYK model. In the infinite-temperature limit, it computes the five-loop semiclassical expansion of DSSYK complexity via singular perturbation of the operator Liouville-type equations of motion, extending prior one-loop results. It further evaluates the Krylov variance and third-order cumulant (related to connected correlators of the length operator), examines small- and large-time behaviors, and determines the all-order resummation of the perturbative series together with leading non-perturbative corrections for the large-time slope of the wormhole linear growth.

Significance. If the central equality and the five-loop computation hold, the work supplies a higher-order verification of the wormhole-complexity duality and introduces a controlled perturbative method that yields an all-order resummation for the slope. This strengthens the link between sine-dilaton gravity and DSSYK observables and could inform non-perturbative analyses in related models.

  1. [singular perturbation analysis (five-loop computation)] The validity of the singular perturbation method applied to the operator Liouville-type equations of motion through five loops is load-bearing for the five-loop coefficients, the variance/cumulant results, and the claimed all-order resummation. The manuscript provides no explicit remainder bounds, a-priori error estimates, or cross-checks against an independent computation that would confirm higher-order operator corrections remain negligible up to O(ħ^5).

Authors: We agree that the absence of explicit remainder bounds or a priori error estimates constitutes a gap in the current presentation. The singular perturbation proceeds by recursively solving the operator Liouville equations order by order in ħ, with each correction determined by the lower-order solution; the five-loop coefficients are obtained directly from this recursion. In the revised manuscript we will add a dedicated subsection that (i) recalls the recursive structure and shows that the operator corrections at each order are suppressed by additional powers of the small parameter ħ, (ii) provides a heuristic bound on the remainder based on the growth of the perturbative coefficients observed through five loops, and (iii) demonstrates consistency with the known one-loop result and with the exact large-time slope obtained from the all-order resummation. An independent non-perturbative cross-check lies outside the perturbative framework of the present work; the internal consistency of the resummation, however, supplies a non-trivial check on the higher-order terms. revision: partial

Central equality referenced from prior work; five-loop perturbative computation provides independent content

full rationale

The paper states that the quantum wormhole length equals the Krylov spread complexity as previously shown, then performs a new five-loop semiclassical expansion via singular perturbation of the operator Liouville-type equations of motion, extending one-loop results. This includes evaluation of variance, cumulants, small/large-time behavior, all-order resummation of the perturbative series for the large-time slope, and leading non-perturbative corrections. No load-bearing step reduces by construction to fitted inputs, self-definitions, or unverified self-citations; the perturbative extensions constitute independent computational content against the referenced identification.

The quantum wormhole length in sine-dilaton gravity has been shown to equal the Krylov spread complexity in the double-scaled SYK model. In the infinite temperature limit, we compute the five-loop semiclassical expansion of DSSYK complexity by singular perturbation of the operator Liouville-type equations of motion, extending the existing one-loop results. The same method is applied to evaluate the Krylov variance and third-order cumulant, related to the connected two- and three-point functions of the length operator at coincident points. The small- and large-time behaviour of these observables is also studied. In particular, for the large-time slope of the wormhole linear growth, we determine the all-order resummation of the perturbative series, and the leading non-perturbative corrections.
