abstract

Various holographic approaches to QCD in five dimensions are explored using input both from the putative non-critical string theory as well as QCD. It is argued that a gravity theory in five dimensions coupled to a dilaton and an axion may capture the important qualitative features of pure QCD. A part of the higher alpha' corrections are resummed into a dilaton potential. The potential is shown to be in one-to-one correspondence with the exact beta-function of QCD, and its knowledge determines the full structure of the vacuum solution. The geometry near the UV boundary is that of AdS_5 with logarithmic corrections reflecting the asymptotic freedom of QCD. We find that all relevant confining backgrounds have an IR singularity of the "good" kind that allows unambiguous spectrum computations. Near the singularity the 't Hooft coupling is driven to infinity. Asymptotically linear glueball masses can also be achieved. The classification of all confining asymptotics, the associated glueball spectra and meson dynamics are addressed in a companion paper, ArXiv:0707.1349

Confinement in Holographic Theories at Finite Theta

hep-th · 2026-03-25 · unverdicted · novelty 6.0

Holographic 5D model shows confinement critical temperature falls quadratically with vacuum angle, matches lattice QCD, and allows time-dependent theta to trigger supercooling and altered gravitational-wave spectra.

Scattering off Chamblin-Reall Branes

hep-th · 2026-05-14 · unverdicted · novelty 5.0

Holographic analysis of scattering off Chamblin-Reall branes shows that for d>1 incident radiation redistributes into reflected, transmitted, and evanescent components, with d=2 yielding diffuse scattering like a translucent window and d=4 requiring IR regulation.

$O(d,d)$ symmetric gravity and finite coupling holography

hep-th · 2026-04-23 · unverdicted · novelty 5.0 · 2 refs

In O(d,d) symmetric gravity with curvature corrections, black brane singularities are not resolved but approach with altered Kasner exponents, while a dilaton generates negative cosmological constants at small coupling.

Uncool soft-wall transitions and gravitational waves

hep-ph · 2026-04-07 · unverdicted · novelty 5.0

Soft-wall warped geometries yield rapid, mildly supercooled phase transitions whose TeV-scale gravitational wave signals are accessible to space-based interferometers.

Glueballs, Constituent Gluons and Instantons

hep-ph · 2026-04-06 · unverdicted · novelty 5.0

A two-gluon constituent model with instanton-induced mass and adjoint confinement predicts a compact scalar glueball of radius ~1/3 fm and an extended tensor state, matching quenched lattice results.
