We present the first data-driven result for $a_\mu^{\rm win, lqc}$, the isospin-limit light-quark connected component of the intermediate-window Hadronic-Vacuum-Polarization contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment. Our result, $(198.8\pm 1.1)\times 10^{-10}$, is in significant tension with eight recent mutually compatible high-precision lattice-QCD determinations, and provides enhanced evidence for a puzzling discrepancy between lattice and data-driven determinations of the intermediate window quantity, one driven largely by a difference in the light-quark connected component.

  1. Comparison of the hadronic vacuum polarization between hadronic $\tau$-decay data and lattice QCD

    hep-ph 2026-05 conditional novelty 6.0

Isospin-corrected inclusive τ spectral functions yield light-quark-connected HVP and window quantities consistent with lattice QCD, but the 2π⁻π⁺π⁰ mode differs significantly from e⁺e⁻-based Pais expectations.

  2. BMW/DMZ calculation of the hadronic vacuum polarisation for the muon magnetic moment

    hep-lat 2026-03 conditional novelty 6.0

A hybrid lattice-QCD plus e+e- data determination of the hadronic vacuum polarisation gives a Standard Model muon g-2 prediction 0.5σ from experiment, at 0.45% precision.

  3. Comparison of the hadronic vacuum polarization between hadronic $\tau$-decay data and lattice QCD

    hep-ph 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 4.0

Lattice QCD and tau-decay dispersive calculations of isospin-one HVP generally agree, except for a significant difference in the 2π−π+π0 four-pion mode contribution to window quantities.
