Recent years have seen the introduction of various multi-field inflationary scenarios in which the curvature and geodesics of the scalar manifold play a crucial role. We outline a simple description that unifies these different proposals and discuss their stability criteria. We demonstrate how the underlying dynamics is governed by an effective potential, whose critical points and bifurcations determine the late-time behaviour of the system, thus unifying hyperinflation, angular, orbital and side-tracked inflation. Interestingly, we show that hyperinflation is a special case of side-tracked inflation, relying on the enhanced isometries of the hyperbolic manifold. We provide the explicit coordinate transformation that maps the two models into each other. Finally, we relax the assumption of a field-space isometry along the inflationary direction that has been considered a prerequisite in the literature so far. We explicitly construct inflationary solutions that do not proceed along a field-space isometry or geodesic and use them to discuss stability criteria.

  1. Searching for Folded Primordial Non-Gaussianity with Galaxy Surveys

    astro-ph.CO 2026-07 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

The galaxy bispectrum, not the power spectrum, is the main probe of folded primordial non-Gaussianity; narrow folded signals are washed out by Fourier-space binning.

  2. Mild Non-Gaussianities under Perturbative Control from Rapid-Turn Inflation Models

    hep-th 2019-08 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Leading-order exponential contributions to higher-order correlators in rapid-turn inflation cancel exactly in the in-in formalism, leaving order-one non-Gaussianity and preserving perturbative control.

  3. Ultra slow-turn inflation

    hep-th 2026-03 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

In slow-roll multi-field inflation, stability should be read from the total entropy perturbation, which decays in 'ultra slow-turn' models even when the isocurvature effective mass-squared is negative.

  4. Fat Inflatons, Large Turns and the $\eta$-problem

    hep-th 2019-08 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

Heavy scalar fields can still drive slow-roll inflation if the trajectory turns rapidly, evading the eta-problem; a D5-brane in a warped throat provides a concrete realization.
