abstract

Recently, discrepancies of up to $4\,\sigma$ between the different determinations of the Cabibbo angle were observed. This "Cabibbo-angle anomaly" could be explained by lepton flavour universality (LFU) violating New Physics (NP) in the neutrino sector. However, modified neutrino couplings to Standard Model gauge bosons also affect many other observables sensitive to LFU violation which have to be taken into account in order to assess the viability of this explanation. Therefore, we perform a model-independent global analysis in a Bayesian approach and find that the tension in the Cabibbo angle is significantly reduced, while the agreement with other data is also mostly improved. In fact, non-zero modifications of electron and muon neutrino couplings are preferred at more than 99\% CL. Still, since constructive effects in the muon sector are necessary, simple models with right-handed neutrinos (whose global fit we update as a by-product) cannot fully explain data, pointing towards more sophisticated NP models.

  1. Pion $\beta$ decay and $\tau\to\pi\pi\nu_\tau$ beyond leading logarithms

    hep-ph 2026-02 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Pion β decay and τ→ππν short-distance radiative corrections are matched at NLL accuracy with evanescent-scheme dependence cancelled, giving Δ_RC^{πℓ}=0.03403(11) and a τ-HVP isospin-breaking shift of −0.07(4)×10^-10.

  2. Flavor constraints from $pp\to Vh$ and $pp\to VW$ at the LHC

    hep-ph 2025-09 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

LHC data on pp→Vh and pp→VW yield general-flavor SMEFT constraints that will become competitive with flavor tests of the Cabibbo-angle anomaly at the HL-LHC.

  3. Dark Matter and CP Violation in Some Symmetry-Constrained 3HDMs

    hep-ph 2025-06 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

S3-symmetric three-Higgs-doublet models allow dark matter in a 29-42 GeV window, exclude heavy candidates above 500 GeV, and admit MeV-scale light scalars, while continuous-symmetry variants produce mass-degenerate da...
