abstract

We prove spectral optical identities in quantum field theories of physical particles (defined by the Feynman $i\epsilon $ prescription) and purely virtual particles (defined by the fakeon prescription). The identities are derived by means of purely algebraic operations and hold for every (multi)threshold separately and for arbitrary frequencies. Their major significance is that they offer a deeper understanding on the problem of unitarity in quantum field theory. In particular, they apply to "skeleton" diagrams, before integrating on the space components of the loop momenta and the phase spaces. In turn, the skeleton diagrams obey a spectral optical theorem, which gives the usual optical theorem for amplitudes, once the integrals on the space components of the loop momenta and the phase spaces are restored. The fakeon prescription/projection is implemented by dropping the thresholds that involve fakeon frequencies. We give examples at one loop (bubble, triangle, box, pentagon and hexagon), two loops (triangle with "diagonal", box with diagonal) and arbitrarily many loops. We also derive formulas for the loop integrals with fakeons and relate them to the known formulas for the loop integrals with physical particles.

  1. Acausal exact vacuum solutions in nonlocal gravity

    gr-qc 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 7.0 of 10

A subclass of Gödel universes with closed timelike curves are exact vacuum solutions in nonlocal gravity for special nonlocal form factors.

  2. Cosmology of fractional gravity

    gr-qc 2026-04 unverdicted novelty 7.0 of 10

Fractional gravity yields stable de Sitter expansion and exact bouncing solutions driven by phantom (w < -1) or ghost (negative energy) fluids, with results independent of the form-factor representation.

  3. Asymptotic Quantum Dynamics of Ghost Fields

    hep-th 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

Complex poles in the ghost propagator induce persistent interactions at asymptotic times, rendering negative-norm ghost states indistinguishable from superpositions of positive-norm multi-particle states and eliminati...

  4. Fractions and Fakeons in Quantum Field Theory

    hep-th 2026-04 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

Fractional powers in QFT kinetic terms can be consistently formulated in Minkowski space using fakeon methods, yielding multiple inequivalent theories that match in Euclidean space, with standard identities preserved.

  5. Ghosts versus Unstable Particles in Quantum Field Theory

    hep-th 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

Ghosts lack asymptotic particle interpretation due to interference and different Riemann-sheet pole structures compared to decaying unstable particles, with finite-time effects producing narrower resonances and higher peaks.

  6. Acausal exact vacuum solutions in nonlocal gravity

    gr-qc 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

Gödel-type universes with closed timelike curves are exact vacuum solutions in nonlocal gravity for a special class of form factors.

  7. Hawking area law in quantum gravity

    gr-qc 2026-04 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

If Hawking's area law is taken as exact, nonlocal and Stelle quantum-gravity theories are forced to drop R^2 and (Riemann)^2 terms (or use singular Ricci-flat black holes), and the standard entropy-area law follows as...

  8. Hawking area law in quantum gravity

    gr-qc 2026-04 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

Exact Hawking area law from black hole mergers restricts quantum gravity to singular Ricci-flat or specific regular black holes in Stelle and nonlocal theories, derives the standard entropy-area law, and realizes Barr...

  9. On Causality and Predictivity

    gr-qc 2026-01 unverdicted novelty 3.0 of 10

Causality is a misleading metaphysical concept that should be abandoned in fundamental physics, making renouncing microcausality acceptable for consistent quantum gravity theories such as those using fakeons.
