A classical black hole is characterized by a horizon that absorbs radiation of all frequencies incident on it. Perturbation of these black holes is well-understood via exponentially damped sinusoids known as quasi-normal modes. Any departure from such classical behavior near the horizon may induce significant modifications in the late time evolution of the perturbation leading to so-called gravitational wave echoes. This work considers the effect of black hole area-quantization on the formation of gravitational wave echoes. We investigate how the resulting echo waveform may depend on various model parameters. Our study opens up a new window to distinguish different models of area quantization using future gravitational wave observations and provides a novel probe to study the near horizon physics.

Quasinormal Ringdown and Echoes in Accreting Exotic Compact Objects
Echoes from an accreting exotic compact object are progressively compressed and suppressed, then vanish when the event horizon overtakes the reflecting surface, after which the signal becomes ordinary black-hole ringdown.

Stretched Horizon Dissipation and the Fate of Echoes
A microscopic estimate shows infalling modes with frequency near the Hawking temperature suffer only moderate dissipation before reaching a stretched horizon, so gravitational wave echoes could survive.

Tidal deformation of an accreting compact object
For perfectly reflecting Schwarzschild-like ECOs, the log-compactness scaling of static scalar and spin-1 Love numbers survives a thin accretion disk, which mainly amplifies the response magnitude.

Gravitational Lensing by Black Holes in Einstein-nonlinear Electrodynamic Theories with Multiple Photon Spheres
In Einstein-nonlinear electrodynamic black holes, each effective potential peak that is taller than all peaks outside it yields a separate photon ring cluster in the lensed image, and triple-peak cases show three nest...
