The two-particle momentum correlation functions between charm mesons ($\mathrm{D^{*\pm}}$ and $\mathrm{D}^\pm$) and charged light-flavor mesons ($\pi^{\pm}$ and K$^{\pm}$) in all charge-combinations are measured for the first time by the ALICE Collaboration in high-multiplicity proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} =13$ TeV. For $\mathrm{DK}$ and $\mathrm{D^*K}$ pairs, the experimental results are in agreement with theoretical predictions of the residual strong interaction based on quantum chromodynamics calculations on the lattice and chiral effective field theory. In the case of $\mathrm{D}\pi$ and $\mathrm{D^*}\pi$ pairs, tension between the calculations including strong interactions and the measurement is observed. For all particle pairs, the data can be adequately described by Coulomb interaction only, indicating a shallow interaction between charm and light-flavor mesons. Finally, the scattering lengths governing the residual strong interaction of the $\mathrm{D}\pi$ and $\mathrm{D^*}\pi$ systems are determined by fitting the experimental correlation functions with a model that employs a Gaussian potential. The extracted values are small and compatible with zero.

  1. Quantum interference effects enhanced in $\pi^+p$ femtoscopic correlation functions

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 7.0

The π⁺p correlation peak near 140 MeV/c arises from quantum interference of incident and scattered waves, while the Δ decay peaks near 220 MeV/c; their m_T-dependent mix explains the ALICE peak shift.

  2. Analysis of the $D_0^*(2300)$ resonance from lattice QCD under chiral symmetry

    hep-ph 2026-04 unverdicted novelty 7.0

Chiral symmetry corrections in lattice QCD fits shift the D0*(2300) resonance pole closer to the Dπ threshold and reduce its width, while coupled channels produce a two-pole structure.

  3. The $D_{s1}(2460)$ and other open-charm $1^+$ states in relativistic chiral effective field theory

    hep-ph 2026-07 unverdicted novelty 6.0

Relativistic U(3) chiral EFT at NLO yields scattering lengths that match lattice data and identifies D_s1(2460) as an SU(3) triplet bound-state pole and D1(2430) as a triplet-sextet pole pair, none of which are conven...

  4. Decay constants of the two-pole $D_0^*(2300)$

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 4.0

    Molecular two-pole D0*(2300) decay constants are 65 and 81 MeV—much smaller than compact c¯q estimates—and imply Cabibbo-favored b-hadron branching fractions of order 10^{-5}.

  5. Scattering and Femtoscopic Correlation Functions of the $\Sigma_c^{++}\pi^{+}$, $\Sigma_c^{0}\pi^{-}$ and $\Sigma_b^{+}\pi^{+}$ Systems

    hep-ph 2026-03 conditional novelty 4.0

Theoretical predictions show that femtoscopic correlation functions for neutral Σ_c^0 π^- pairs best constrain isotensor strong interactions in charm and bottom sectors, while Coulomb repulsion diminishes discriminati...
