abstract

We review the description of classical gravitational scatterings of two compact objects by means of the eikonal framework. This encodes via scattering amplitudes both the motion of the bodies and the gravitational-wave signals that such systems produce. As an application, we combine the next-to-leading post-Minkowskian (PM) waveform derived in the post-Newtonian (PN) limit with the 4PM static loss due to the linear memory effect to reproduce known results for the total angular mometum loss in the center-of-mass frame up to $\mathcal O(G^4)$ and 2.5PN order. We also provide similar expressions for the change in the system's mass dipole, discussing the subtleties related to its sensitivity to the Coulombic components of the field and to the nonlinear memory effect.

  1. Radiation-Reaction and Angular Momentum Loss at $\mathcal{O}(G^4)$

    hep-th 2025-01 accept novelty 8.0 of 10

A closed-form, all-velocity expression for the O(G^4) radiated angular momentum in two-body gravitational scattering is derived, resumming all half-odd post-Newtonian corrections.

  2. Kerr Soft Dressing and the $w_{1+\infty}$ Frame Algebra at Null Infinity

    hep-th 2026-07 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

The Kerr soft exponent generates a parity-alternating hierarchy of null-infinity frame generators—displacement memory at s=0, spin memory at s=1, and higher moments alternating by Kerr multipole parity—realized as the...

  3. "Waveforms" at the Horizon

    gr-qc 2026-02 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A probe scattering off a Schwarzschild black hole transfers a definite leading-order post-Minkowskian angular momentum to the horizon, given by new closed formulas (3.24b), (3.29), (3.36).

  4. Lorentz Covariant Supertranslation Frames for the Angular Momentum Aspect

    gr-qc 2025-10 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

Angular momentum in GR is made unambiguous by fixing supertranslation frames through the center-of-mass condition J_{\mu\nu}P^\nu=0, extended covariantly to the final state via P^i_\mu P^f_\nu J^{f\mu\nu}=0.

  5. ADM, BMS, and some puzzling interconnections

    gr-qc 2025-05 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

A perspective paper on ADM/BMS interconnections that separates radiative and static angular-momentum loss, and uses an explicit O(G) example to show antipodal energy matching at i0 is not actual energy flow.
