abstract

Our goal in this paper is to discuss a conjectural correspondence between enumerative geometry of curves in Calabi-Yau 5-folds $Z$ and 1-dimensional sheaves on 3-folds $X$ that are embedded in $Z$ as fixed points of certain $\mathbb{C}^\times$-actions. In both cases, the enumerative information is taken in equivariant $K$-theory, where the equivariance is with respect to all automorphisms of the problem. In Donaldson-Thomas theories, one sums up over all Euler characteristics with a weight $(-q)^\chi$, where $q$ is a parameter, informally referred to as the boxcounting parameter. The main feature of the correspondence is that the 3-dimensional boxcounting parameter $q$ becomes in $5$ dimensions the equivariant parameter for the $\mathbb{C}^\times$-action that defines $X$ inside $Z$. The 5-dimensional theory effectively sums up the $q$-expansion in the Donaldson-Thomas theory. In particular, it gives a natural explanation of the rationality (in $q$) of the DT partition functions. Other expected as well as unexpected symmetries of the DT counts follow naturally from the 5-dimensional perspective. These involve choosing different $\mathbb{C}^\times$-actions on the same $Z$, and thus relating the same 5-dimensional theory to different DT problems. The important special case $Z=X \times \mathbb{C}^2$ is considered in detail in Sections 7 and 8. If $X$ is a toric Calabi-Yau threefold, we compute the theory in terms of a certain index vertex. We show the refined vertex found combinatorially by Iqbal, Kozcaz, and Vafa is a special case of the index vertex.

  1. On spin structures and orientations for gauge-theoretic moduli spaces

    math.DG 2019-08 conditional novelty 8.0 of 10

Spin structures on connection moduli spaces over a manifold X are equivalent to orientations over X times a circle, yielding canonical spin structures for positive Dirac operators on spin 6-manifolds.

  2. Shell formulas for instantons and gauge origami

    hep-th 2025-12 unverdicted novelty 7.0 of 10

A new shell formula unifies and delivers explicit closed-form expressions plus recursions for instanton partition functions in 5d SYM and multiple gauge origami configurations using arbitrary-dimensional Young diagrams.

  3. Crystals and Double Quiver Algebras from Jeffrey-Kirwan Residues

    hep-th 2025-01 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

For quivers satisfying a no-overlap condition, flavored BPS indices are computed by crystal melting derived from Jeffrey-Kirwan residues, and new double quiver algebras are constructed whose crystal representations en...

  4. Universal Correlators on Exponentially Ramified Spectral Curves

    math-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Generalized topological recursion extends to spectral curves with essential singularities by replacing residues at the essential point with residues at ordinary meromorphic points.

  5. An Airy Tale at Large $N$

    hep-th 2025-02 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

The paper presents numerical and analytic evidence that the large-N sphere partition function of five classes of M2-brane SCFTs, with squashing and real masses, takes the form of an Airy function to all orders in 1/N.

  6. Gauge Origami and BPS/CFT correspondence

    hep-th 2025-02 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

The gauge origami partition function on C4 is realized as a correlation function of BPS qq-character operators, with D6 and D8 characters labeled by plane and solid partitions.
