We show that the ${\cal N}=1$ supergravity theories in ten dimensions with gauge groups $U(1)^{496}$ and $E_8 \times U(1)^{248}$ are not consistent quantum theories. Cancellation of anomalies cannot be made compatible with supersymmetry and abelian gauge invariance. Thus, in ten dimensions all supersymmetric theories of gravity without known inconsistencies are realized in string theory.

  1. Uniqueness of D=8 minimal supergravity with two vector multiplets

    hep-th 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 6.0

Under a duality symmetry assumption, minimal supergravity coupled to two vector multiplets in D=8 is uniquely fixed in the BPS sector by anomaly cancellation, uplifts, and gauge enhancement.

  2. Rational points in the 6d supergravity landscape and simple current extensions

    hep-th 2026-03 unverdicted novelty 5.0

Rationality of the 2d SCFT on BPS strings provides a consistency criterion that uniquely determines the elliptic genus and global gauge group in a class of 6d supergravity models without tensor multiplets.
