abstract

Bjorken flow is among the simplest models of fluids moving near the speed of light ($c$) while Carroll symmetry arises as a contraction of Poincar\'{e} group when $c \to 0$. We show that Bjorken flow and its phenomenological approximations are completely captured by Carrollian fluids. Carrollian symmetries arise on generic null surfaces and a fluid moving at $c$ is restricted to such a surface, thereby naturally inheriting the symmetries. Carrollian hydrodynamics is thus not exotic, but rather ubiquitous, and provides a concrete framework for fluids moving at or near the speed of light.

  1. Towards a Holographic dual of Carrollian BCFT

    hep-th 2026-08 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

An end-of-the-world brane in 3d flat spacetime is shown to reduce spacetime symmetries to the boundary Carrollian conformal algebra, suggesting a flat-space analogue of AdS3/BCFT2 holography.

  2. A unified expansion of Einstein's gravity

    hep-th 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A unified (s,n)-parametrized expansion of the Einstein-Hilbert action yields Galilean, Carroll, Lorentzian, and string Carroll gravity, and near-horizon black hole geometries satisfy the string Carroll equations.

  3. Quantization of Carrollian fermions

    hep-th 2025-02 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

A first interacting 4D Carrollian Yukawa theory is constructed, showing ultralocal fermion-scalar interactions and one-loop beta functions with mostly Gaussian fixed points.

  4. Lectures on Carrollian Holography

    hep-th 2025-11 conditional novelty 3.0 of 10

Massless scattering amplitudes, including gravitons, can be recast as correlators of a carrollian conformal field theory on null infinity, but the non-perturbative bootstrap program remains incomplete.
