We construct black hole solutions with spin-induced scalarization in a class of models where a scalar field is quadratically coupled to the topological Gauss-Bonnet term. Starting from the tachyonically unstable Kerr solutions, we obtain families of scalarized black holes such that the scalar field has either even or odd parity, and we investigate their domain of existence. The scalarized black holes can violate the Kerr rotation bound. We identify "critical" families of scalarized black hole solutions such that the expansion of the metric functions and of the scalar field at the horizon no longer allows for real coefficients. For the quadratic coupling considered here, solutions with spin-induced scalarization are entropically favored over Kerr solutions with the same mass and angular momentum.

  1. Challenges in the nonlinear evolution of unequal mass binaries in sGB gravity

    gr-qc 2025-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

First full merger simulations of 2:1 and 3:1 black hole binaries in scalar-Gauss-Bonnet gravity, with weak-coupling dephasing matching PN predictions but strong-coupling results limited by initial-data transients.

  2. Supermassive black hole scalarization and effective field theory

    gr-qc 2025-06 accept novelty 6.0 of 10

A canonical two-scalar EFT cannot naturally produce supermassive-only black hole scalarization, because the generated G^2 term has the wrong sign and is suppressed.

  3. Spin-induced Scalarized Black Holes in Einstein-Maxwell-scalar Models

    gr-qc 2025-06 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Spin-induced scalarized Kerr-Newman black holes are constructed numerically for negative coupling, and they coexist with stable, entropically favored Kerr-Newman black holes.

  4. Phase transitions in scalarized topological AdS black holes

    gr-qc 2025-11 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

Pressure drives scalarization transitions in spherical, planar, and hyperbolic AdS black holes from first-order through cave-of-wind to supercritical, and the spherical zeroth-order transition is claimed to be an inco...

  5. Scalarization of Bardeen spacetime

    gr-qc 2025-09 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

For scalarization of the full Bardeen spacetime, small magnetic charges give the usual smooth scalarization threshold, while large charges end in a 'frozen' horizonless scalarized state rather than a Bardeen black hole.

  6. Quantum parameter-mass induced scalarization of qOS-black hole in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet-scalar theory

    gr-qc 2025-05 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

For the quantum Oppenheimer-Snyder black hole, the heat capacity Davies points coincide exactly with the critical onset values for spontaneous scalarization in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet-scalar gravity.

  7. Two scalarizations of magnetically charged black holes

    gr-qc 2025-07 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

For a magnetically charged black hole in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet-scalar theory with nonlinear electrodynamics, the paper derives thermodynamic relations, finds shadow-based mass constraints, and predicts two scalarizati...
