We update lattice QCD results for second order cumulants of conserved charge fluctuations and correlations at non-zero temperature and vanishing values of the conserved charge chemical potentials. We compare these results to hadron resonance gas calculations with and without excluded volume terms as well as S-matrix results in the hadronic phase of QCD, and comment on their current limitations. We, furthermore, use these results to characterize thermal conditions in the vicinity of the pseudo-critical line of the chiral transition in QCD. We argue that the ratio of strange to baryon chemical potentials is a robust observable that, on the one hand, deviates only little from hadron resonance gas results, but, on the other hand, is very sensitive to the spectrum of strange baryon resonances.

Extraction of baryon number susceptibilities at finite density from heavy-ion collisions
From STAR proton fluctuation data, a Bayesian extraction constrains chi_2^B at freeze-out, matching lattice QCD below mu_B about 300 MeV and attributing the nonmonotonic C3/C1 to two-baryon correlations plus baryon co...

Quark number susceptibility and conserved charge fluctuation for (2+1)-flavor QCD with M\"obius domain wall fermions
New lattice QCD results for second- and fourth-order quark number susceptibilities and charge fluctuation ratios using Möbius domain wall fermions show a possible discrepancy with staggered fermions in the electric ch...

Generalized susceptibilities and the properties of charm degrees of freedom across the QCD crossover temperature
Charm fluctuations from lattice QCD match a hadron resonance gas only when quark-model-predicted charmed hadrons are added, and above the crossover a charm-quark-like partial pressure emerges.

Thermodynamics of charmed hadrons across chiral crossover from lattice QCD
Lattice QCD charm fluctuations show that charmed baryon pressure is about twice the known-state expectation and that low-lying charmed hadrons survive above the chiral crossover before charm quark-like degrees of free...

QCD Equation of State with Strong Magnetic Fields and Nonzero Baryon Density
Lattice QCD continuum estimates of leading-order baryon-density Taylor coefficients of the magnetized QCD equation of state show deviations from hadron gas and approach to a free gas at strong fields.
