We analyze the New Physics sensitivity of a recently proposed method to measure the CP-violating ${\cal B}(K_S\to\mu^+\mu^-)_{\ell=0}$ decay rate using $K_S - K_L$ interference. We present our findings both in a model-independent EFT approach as well as within several simple NP scenarios. We discuss the relation with associated observables, most notably ${\cal B}(K_L\to\pi^0\nu\bar\nu)$. We find that simple NP models can significantly enhance ${\cal B}(K_S\to\mu^+\mu^-)_{\ell=0}$, making this mode a very promising probe of physics beyond the standard model in the kaon sector.

  1. A CKM blind spot: probing $b$-column rescaling with kaons

A uniform rescaling of the CKM b-column is invisible to B-physics-only fits, and kaon data already bound it to −4%…+4% (2σ), with projections reaching ~2%.

  2. Prospects for $K_{L}\to\pi^{0}\nu\bar{\nu}$, $K_S\to\mu^+\mu^-$, $K_L\to\pi^0 \ell^+\ell^-$ and $\varepsilon^{\prime}/\varepsilon$ after the new $K^{+}\to\pi^{+}\nu\bar{\nu}$ result from NA62

A Z' model with both left- and right-handed sbar-d couplings can enhance K_L→π0ννbar by an order of magnitude while keeping K+→π+ννbar and ε_K SM-like.
