The process of molecule formation in the primordial gas is considered in the framework of Friedmann cosmological models from redshift z=1e4 to z=0. First, a comprehensive analysis of 87 gas phase reaction rates (both collisional and radiative) relevant in the physical environment of the expanding universe is presented and critically discussed. On this basis, calculations are carried out of the abundance of 21 molecular species as function of redshift evaluating consistently the molecular heating and cooling due to H2, HD and LiH molecules. One of the major improvements of this work is the use of a better treatment of H recombination that leads to a reduction of a factor 2-3 in the abundance of electrons and H+ at freeze-out, with respect to previous studies. We find that in the standard model, the residual fractional ionization at z=1 is 3.02e-4, and the main molecular species fractional abundances H2/H=1.1e-6, HD/H2=1.1e-3, HeH+/H=6.2e-13, LiH+/H=9.4e-18, and LiH/LiH+=7.6e-3. Finally, we provide accurate cooling functions of H2, HD and LiH in a wide range of density and temperature that can be conveniently used in a variety of cosmological applications.

Lyman-alpha Pressure Strongly Enhances Pre-Supernova Feedback at Cosmic Dawn: The First Multi-Dimensional Lyman-alpha Radiation Hydrodynamics Simulations
First 2D Lyα RHD simulations show Lyman-alpha radiation pressure yields radiative forces of 2-16 times L_bol/c and force multipliers of 10-60, dominating other pre-supernova feedback in metal-poor environments.

Not-quite-primordial black holes
Modest small-scale density fluctuations can make halos at z>200 where CMB radiation suppresses molecular cooling, letting gas collapse directly into black hole seeds that match JWST counts.

The evolution of the galaxy gas-phase mass-metallicity relation from $z=15$ to $z=0$ in the COLIBRE cosmological simulations
COLIBRE simulations find the galaxy gas-phase MZR already in place at z≈10 with little evolution until z≈5, then shallowens at low z, with high-mass turnover set by AGN feedback and low-mass end by core-collapse supernovae.

Direct Collapse Black Hole Candidates from Decaying Dark Matter
Axion dark matter decay injects 1-13.6 eV photons that suppress H2, enabling atomic cooling halos and direct collapse black hole seeds for axion masses 24.5-26.5 eV and couplings down to 4e-12/GeV.

Can supermassive stars form in protogalaxies due to internal Lyman-Werner feedback?
Internal Lyman-Werner feedback from a first star inside an atomic-cooling halo reduces accretion onto neighboring protostars and cannot produce a supermassive star, even when molecular hydrogen cooling is artificially...
