When a star is tidally disrupted by a supermassive black hole (SMBH), the streams of liberated gas form an accretion disk after their return to pericenter. We demonstrate that Lense-Thirring precession in the spacetime around a rotating SMBH can produce significant time evolution of the disk angular momentum vector, due to both the periodic precession of the disk and the nonperiodic, differential precession of the bound debris streams. Jet precession and periodic modulation of disk luminosity are possible consequences. The persistence of the jetted X-ray emission in the Swift J164449.3+573451 flare suggests that the jet axis was aligned with the spin axis of the SMBH during this event.

  1. Using the Difference of the Inclinations of a Pair of Counter-Orbiting Satellites to Measure the Lense-Thirring Effect

    gr-qc 2024-12 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

The difference in inclination changes of two counter-orbiting polar satellites cancels the Newtonian quadrupole bias and isolates the Lense-Thirring precession, in principle allowing a cleaner Earth-based test.

  2. Simulations of interaction between outflow and surrounding broken power-law circumnuclear medium: implications for different radio light curves of TDEs

    astro-ph.HE 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

3D hydro simulations show that TDE outflow interactions with a broken power-law CNM can reproduce the range of observed radio light curves via early flares inside the Bondi radius and possible late rebrightenings outside it.

  3. GRMHD and GRRT Simulations of Black Hole Accretion: Flares, Precession, and Complex Spacetimes

    astro-ph.HE 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 4.0 of 10

Simulations of accreting black holes in standard and complex spacetimes indicate that magnetic geometry, quantum corrections, and binary dynamics influence flares, precession, photon rings, and multi-wavelength variab...
