The 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey (2dFGRS) is designed to measure redshifts for approximately 250000 galaxies. This paper describes the survey design, the spectroscopic observations, the redshift measurements and the survey database. The 2dFGRS uses the 2dF multi-fibre spectrograph on the Anglo-Australian Telescope, which is capable of observing 400 objects simultaneously over a 2-degree diameter field. The source catalogue for the survey is a revised and extended version of the APM galaxy catalogue, and the targets are galaxies with extinction-corrected magnitudes brighter than b_J=19.45. The main survey regions are two declination strips, one in the southern Galactic hemisphere spanning 80deg x 15deg around the SGP, and the other in the northern Galactic hemisphere spanning 75deg x 10deg along the celestial equator; in addition, there are 99 fields spread over the southern Galactic cap. The survey covers 2000 sq.deg and has a median depth of z=0.11. Adaptive tiling is used to give a highly uniform sampling rate of 93% over the whole survey region. Redshifts are measured from spectra covering 3600A-8000A at a two-pixel resolution of 9.0A and a median S/N of 13 per pixel. All redshift identifications are visually checked and assigned a quality parameter Q in the range 1-5; Q>=3 redshifts are 98.4% reliable and have an rms uncertainty of 85 km/s. The overall redshift completeness for Q>=3 redshifts is 91.8%, but this varies with magnitude from 99% for the brightest galaxies to 90% for objects at the survey limit. 1. The Edge-on Galaxies in the DESI survey (EGIDE): sample building and photometry

    astro-ph.GA 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

The EGIDE project releases a tenfold larger catalogue of edge-on galaxies with griz photometry, stellar masses, redshifts and star formation rates, finding that red-sequence galaxies are thicker than blue-cloud ones a...

  2. From metallicity distributions to mutual information: A new perspective on stellar halo assembly

    astro-ph.GA 2025-11 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Mutual information between angular position and binary metallicity increases with radius in all five Aquarius stellar halos, and after satellite removal the residual signal is confined to the inner ~30-50 kpc.

  3. Fiducial-Cosmology-dependent systematics for the DESI 2024 Full-Shape Analysis

    astro-ph.CO 2025-09 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Changing the assumed fiducial cosmology in DESI DR1 full-shape mock analyses shifts inferred parameters by at most 0.22 sigma in full-modeling and 0.45 sigma in ShapeFit, both within the survey's statistical uncertainty.

  4. DESI 2024 V: Full-Shape Galaxy Clustering from Galaxies and Quasars

    astro-ph.CO 2024-11 accept novelty 6.0 of 10

    DESI DR1 full-shape galaxy clustering constrains Omega_m = 0.296 ± 0.010, H0 = 68.63 ± 0.79 km/s/Mpc, and sigma_8 = 0.841 ± 0.034, consistent with LambdaCDM and Planck.

  5. The Gravitational Wave Bias Parameter from Angular Power Spectra: Bridging Between Galaxies and Binary Black Holes

    astro-ph.GA 2024-11 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

The gravitational wave bias of mock binary black holes increases with the pivot mass of the assumed host galaxy mass selection, and can exceed the galaxy bias by up to about 30 percent only for steep host probability slopes.

  6. Constraints on local primordial non-Gaussianity with 3d Velocity Reconstruction from the Kinetic Sunyaev-Zeldovich Effect

    astro-ph.CO 2024-11 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

    The first 3D kSZ velocity reconstruction yields a 7.2-sigma galaxy-velocity cross-correlation and a constraint fNL = -90 +210 -350, still consistent with zero.

  7. Decadal pre-explosion activity and circumstellar interaction in a supernova

    astro-ph.HE 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

SN 2026gzf exhibits early circumstellar interaction with 0.02 solar masses of material and decadal pre-explosion variability suggesting enhanced eruptive mass loss.

  8. Combined tracer analysis for DESI 2024 BAO

    astro-ph.CO 2025-08 accept novelty 5.0 of 10

Combining LRG and ELG tracers with bias weighting improves BAO constraints by 11% on alpha_iso and 7% on alpha_AP in DESI DR1 data for the 0.8<z<1.1 bin.
